Musicians not communicating...

Paulina, on July 8, 2021 at 17:51 Posted in Plan a wedding 0 10
We hired musicians for our wedding. They were very responsive before we booked them but after giving them 50% deposit, they haven't been as responsive. We had to reschedule our wedding due to covid and so it's been more than a year of trying to communicate changes with them. Everytime it took them a long time to get back to me, they always had a valid excuse. Our wedding date is now August 1st and I sent over our song list and schedule to them. They kept saying they'd call to chat but haven't called. I followed up with emails and calls but they haven't gotten back so now I'm getting worried. My fiance says not to worry, as long as they come to the wedding and play the music then we will be fine but I feel like if I can't even count on them to respond to emails or calls then how can I trust that thsy will show up on the day of our wedding? Any suggestions on what I should do?

Your doing the best you can with your side of the communication and they are not doing their part to reply back in a timely fashion to let you know anything or information for your wedding. Ask a friend to make a call and inquire about a date and speak to them to find out if they will change yours as its for you.

I misread your date, my bad. I would definitely send an email saying that you expect a response.

    I'd probably go with...

I realize that you are probably busy with other weddings/events and respect your time, however due to my wedding being August 1st and under 30 days away, I am needing to finalize some music decisions so that I may turn my attention to other matters. I am available by phone at xxx.xxx.xxxx during [I'd list 2 days each with a morning time, afternoon time and evening time].

Or something similar. Definitely include your date and phone number so they don't have to look it up. If the information is there, that leaves no excuse for them not to follow up.

Three weeks is more than enough time to get a response. I would follow up and let them know with your wedding coming up fast, that you expect a better response time. They don't need to answer you the minute you email them but three weeks is ridiculous.

Thanks for your response and letting me know how it might be from their perspective. It is likely that they have other jobs...

There's only 23 days until my wedding now, that is why I'm concerned.

Thanks for your response and assurance. I sent them the list and schedule 3 weeks ago. Their response time has been very inconsistent, sometimes days and sometimes weeks.

It sucks that they're taking a while to get back to you but like you said, they usually have a valid excuse for the delay. It is high wedding season right now so they could be busy working. How long has it been since you sent them the list? How long do they usually take to respond?

    I can understand the concern.

Do these musicians have other jobs aside from their music? While a florist, baker, photographer most likely does it full-time, performers usually have another job (or more) that they work. As a performer myself it can be hard to juggle everything on top of my 8-5 job.

If they were great at communicating initially, they have a certain way they do things and while you just have your wedding you're thinking of, they probably have a dozen plus that they are booked for right now.

I'd say check in 6 weeks before if you haven't heard back. Try to trust them. There's a reason you booked them Smiley smile
