Milestones - Planning a Shower

Geneviève, on January 6, 2020 at 22:08 Posted in Before the wedding 0 10
Not only is there lots of fun planning the wedding, there’s planning the shower too!
Now lots of brides hand this time honoured tradition to their mothers or Maids of Honour but some (like me!) plan their own.
Born from community get-togethers to furnish the newlyweds future home, bridal Showers were big community news (sometimes made the papers!) and has been a staple in Canadian families since the early 1800s! Needless to say, the Shower has definitely evolved from its quaint beginnings as an afternoon house party to the lavish ones we know today. So tell us about your shower plans! Do you know where you want one? Do you have advice on how to plan one? Are you skipping it altogether? Tell us everything!

I'm not sure of I'll have one.
If I do I'd love for my future MIL and SIL to be there. They each live far from us so travel is not likely. I might see if we can have one on their visit in the spring or even the week before the wedding if they'll be here early.
I won't be heartbroken if it doesn't happen.

That sounds really nice, and we sound super similar lol. Mine has only 30 guests plus us but we have guests and family from all walks so I’ve got to be involved in uniting everybody.
They sure do book fast don’t they! We booked ours tentatively the two years ago and officially 13 months out. Our place also only does 1 bridal shower/private event per month so we had to act fast!

My shower is early in May this year, and like you, I'm pretty heavily involved in the planning. My family and FH's family aren't that close, so I kind of have to be involved. Not a big deal since im super type A anyway.

We're having mine at a golf course in Toronto - hopefully the weather is nice because the views are phenomenal! It's a bubbles and brunch theme - there will be mimosas and lots, lots, lots of food. We'll also have a few games for the guests as well.

We're inviting 113 people - huge, I know. My FH's family tradition is to invite almost all of the women invited to the wedding.

My advice is book a venue early if you need one! They book up super fast! My venue was almost fully booked for Sundays in 2020 when I booked last June - it's crazy.

I had two showers and others planned them for me.

I was able to plan a shower for my brother and two friends previously.

For one friend, I didn't really have much of a say and they planned so many games! I'm one of the rare ones that actually like shower games and I thought there were too many! Plus, the food was at the end, after the games and gifts!

All the showers I've been to/involved in have been super casual!

I decided not to do one. I dont need any household items. I also only have one person in my bridal party, I feel that a shower would be too much for one person.

I had 2 Showers because my sister was coming in from Australia and could not be there until the week before the wedding. So we had my side of the family and then my Husbands side of the family.

One was just a lunch and the other was a high tea. Both smaller, which was nice because it gave me the opportunity to talk with everyone

My wedding shower was planned by my MOH (my Sister) and my Mom Smiley smile My BM's helped set up though!

It was at a community centre close to my parents house and it was a blast! We had a parfait bar and everybody LOVED that! (also had sandwhiches, coffee, and dainties)

We didn't have one though the Buck & Buck was considered as one for us with our family and friends.
