Midnight lunch?

Bethany, on December 10, 2017 at 13:54 Posted in Wedding reception 0 28
What is everyone planning on doing for the midnight lunch? Is the caterer providing a midnight lunch? Are you ordering pizza? Getting subway platters? Sushi? What is everyone thinking?

Yup! Our venue is doing midnight snacks! We are having a mashed potato martini bar, taco bar and something else I can't remember haha.

Ya! My cousin is doing it too lol. I think poutine is just becoming more popular in general due to smokes poutinerie popping up all over the place.

I thought we were being unique with our poutine bar idea. But looks like it is a popular idea! I had never heard of it before and I lived in Montreal for a bit where it was pretty much a staple!

    Its a yes from me.

We are doing a poutine bar because my FH is American and the wedding is in Canada. We want the guests to experience some Canadian party food.

Also, our friends are all into the dancing/drinking and I know for myself this always leads to me craving something fattening and deep fried in the wee hours of the evening.

Great post, it actually have me ideas lol
So we planned on using the catering originally but their estimates were over $700 for a midnight lunch, I felt that I could put together with my MOH and mom the night before the same type of spread without the same cost - they were offering pickle/Olive trays 6 assorted meats 6 assorted cheeses and a fruit mash up - IMO Im pretty sure I could make better in my own budget - we need to do an appetizer starter during cocktails as well as a midnight lunch so we plan to do buns and condiments invade people wanna make a full sandwich instead of tasting - Costco is our go to in this case, same with alcohol as we are providing the toonie bar

It does. We had to choose between feeding them while we were getting photos done or at the end of the night after they already had a bunch of food (it's a plated meal) and there will be a lot of cake and other desserts too. It made more sense to put the money into the cocktail hour than a midnight snack.

Sounds delicious!! I think it's a legality to have food if you have alcohol involved. But you'd have to check with AGLC.

Yeah I think it's illegal to not provide food or have food available when you are serving alcohol.. Not sure but I think AGLC requires it.

Were doing a gourmet hotdog bar. Basically you choose from a variety of toppings for your hotdog. Were also doing poutine balls.

In my experience, and from what I've heard from others, if you're serving alcohol and having a dance, a midnight snack is expected. I've heard of one venue that actually requires it if you're having a dance. The "theory" is that food helps to absorb alcohol.

We won't be providing anything as we are already paying for a cocktail hour.

Probably some build your own poutine kind of midnight snack as well for us. Although, just wondering, how expected is it to have midnight snack?

My cousin did the chocolate fountain and it was a hit! They also included pretzels, bacon (surprisingly good apparently but I can't have chocolate so didn't try it), marshmallows, cookies...I can't remember what else but they had a variety.

Our venue provides pizza and we are doing a donut bar ourselves. We are thinking about adding tacos or sliders but aren’t sure yet

Our caterer provided midnight wood fired pizza (I say midnight, but it was really closer to 10:30). It was a great snack!

Our venue has a couple options. We chose the poutine bar! Fiance loves poutine and I love fries so it works out well.

I think we are just having our caterer provide it. Still contemplating this idea! We may get fruit platters and have a chocolate fountain instead
