Mexico legal requirements

Krystal, on November 23, 2019 at 14:35 Posted in Plan a wedding 0 7
Anyone get married in Mexico and have had to take a marriage class? I'm not wanting to have a hotel wedding and trying to plan it seems time consuming because they want blood work (which I already know) but they also want you to take a marriage class there? Seems like more work, but I also dont want to pay all the extra fees at a hotel because I dont need a hotel wedding as I have family there. Advice/ideas/recommendations

My mom speaks spanish so we've been calling around. Seems like a lot of work , we need blood work done, a marriage class, another marriage talk through the church, documents translated for the church. In Canada we dont need blood work or a marriage talk. Marriage talk is only though the church. Mexico we cant get married civil at the same time as the church ceremony, it has to be done before, here in Canada you can do it at the same time people say it's really easy to get married in mexico, but not when you want a traditional wedding.

    Hey there, Krystal!

Would you consider reaching out to a wedding planner in Mexico who may be able to assist in what is legally required to wed there? Or a local officiant?

The WeddingWire Us website lists some on their vendor directory -

    Mexico Wedding Officiants

    Mexico Wedding Planners

Alternatively, does your family there have any knowledge of the legal requirements?

It only cost them 250 to get legally married in out province and than did the wedding for everyone down there. I am also doing the legal stuff first because it is cheaper to get the papers signed than it is to get them to do an official ceremony

Yes, there is a few documents they want translated and each page costs money here to translate, and the church there wants church permission from here translated and notarized which would cost 100 dollars itself. Now I cant decide which country I'm really going to save money on!

A friend of mine had her wedding in Dominican. They just got legally married in Canada with the paperwork before they left, than did the "show" for their guests. Otherwise to do it down there legally it required them to get the paperwork translated and transferred to here which would have cost a lot more.

Resorts in Cancun are excellent since many wedding are held there and may not require all what is asked. You may consider inquiring with them and having your family look into it for you. 2 of my cousins got married there and just beautiful. They arrange everything with the hotel and vendors to the final detail.

Another way to find out more information about destination weddings are by travel agent who can suggest what may be better ways to seek the requirements and no blood work or marriage classes.
