May 2021 wedding

Ally, on January 7, 2021 at 11:38 Posted in Plan a wedding 0 16

Hi everyone,

I am just curious if anyone is getting married in May 2021 in the Vaughan area around Jane and HWY 7. I am wondering what options your venue is giving you and just wondering what you guys are thinking for a plan B just in case covid cases are still high. I am starting to freak out about how my wedding is going to turn out because we are getting married regardless as we have already had to postpone.

    Hey!

Even though I am getting married in September 2021 ( postponed from October 2020) our venue is around Jane and Highway 7. Our venue was able to give us a back up date in June while were were deciding if we officially wanted to postpone. I cannot imagine not getting my money back so I will have to make it work.

Keeping my fingers crossed for you.

Its easy to believe the frustration of postponing your wedding date again. Having a smaller wedding if the time comes to do so seems better than nothing at all. There will always be plan A and B and sometimes C if the first two don't work out. I hope everything works out for you.

We are definitely in the same boat. We are getting married regardless, I’m really hoping that the cases are lower by May. At this point I wouldn’t even want to have the reception later on I’m so over this wedding planning which is really sad.

We're in May in Vaughan after also postponing last summer. Our venue won't make any plans until 60 days before the event so it sounds like we’re pretty much in the same boat as you. I'm hoping Ontario can vaccinate as many people as they've stated in their plan and that helps with cases. I caught Doug Ford's comment as we need to hang on until April, since we have limited doses until then ("We have to hang in there until April. April, May and June we’re hoping we’ll get 5 million doses every single month. We’ll be vaccinating 160,000 people a day across the province.")

We’re committed to getting married this time though, even if it’s just us and our witnesses and having to push the reception to next year but still holding out hope that things are going to be safer by the spring.

I want to... I agree I don’t want that negative energy but he pretty much said I lose the deposit. I wouldn’t care if it was like $600 but it’s $2400 deposit 😰

Would you be able to switch your deposit into another service and hire someone else instead of paying extra? I feel like having that kind of negative energy with a vendor would make things difficult on such a big day.

I'm in Toronto but will be getting married in York Region like you, so same restrictions except we'll be in September instead of May. Our venue has been great at accommodating us. We've had backup dates held as far back as April when poop hit the fan.

Since you were able to postpone, I hope that means they weren't bad in the negotiation process. Having been to your venue for other weddings, I would ask if their other halls are booked on your day. In the event you need to downsize, at least you can switch to a smaller room so it doesn't feel like you're in a giant vacuum of a space.

Really that’s terrible to hear, all of my vendors have been great as really supportive. I only had to pay a little more for my decorations because my wedding went from a Friday to a Saturday which is understandable.

Thanks for your reply I really appreciate it. I reached out to my venue a few months ago just asking but they said it was to early to tell and that we would look into option in March which is totally fine. I’m just getting a little nervous lol 🤦‍♀️

My wedding was supposed to be sept 2020, we moved it to sept 2021 back in April shortly after the covid mess started. I just changed it again, June 2022. I feel like this year is going to be worse than last 😭

So when I signed my contract, they actually included a clause that If the wedding is cancelled due to government closures, they will provide a full refund. If we choose to move it, we can just pick another available date.

Smiley sad Sorry to hear. So my venue is downtown toronto...slightly different but nonetheless... some venues have been great and allowing couples to postpone, while others have been adding an additional charge to it. Have you reached out to your venue? What have they said?

Unfortunately the chances of you getting your money back are very slim...but if the venue is willing to work with you than you are in a good position.
