May 16 and covid

Alicia, on March 25, 2020 at 11:54 Posted in Plan a wedding 0 14
Hi everyone,
I’m getting married May 16 and I tried contacting our venue about postponing, but they are saying to me that everything will be fine by then. However, my fiancé and I don’t feel comfortable with all this stuff that’s happening we want to postpone! They said they are charging us a fee to postpone and we are very upset that they are evening doing this. Is anyone having this issue?
I’m tempted to cancel the venue and just having something small in July and August. I’m very stressed and don’t know what to do.

I would wait for them to cancel you. At present it is technically “too early” for some venues to cancel due to the government stating that the closures will be until Mar 31...but, this will definitely be extended this coming week. So just wait. You will have more power shortly 🙂

So far, our venue said that if we do cancel, the deposit is not refundable but we aren’t being asked to pay fees in addition to that. To definitively say a global pandemic that none of us have likely lived through before will be “fine” in 7 weeks is kind of irresponsible on their part. I get that they’re running a business but still.. Hope your day is amazing, wherever it is!

    Hi Alicia!

We are date twins! We are also May 16. So far we are leaving our reception and ceremony as is. We've been told by our venue that we are able to reschedule but obviously the March and April brides get first dibs on the dates remaining in the year. My fiancee and I have discussed at length about how to proceed, but our current state is leaving our wedding as is for now until the time comes where we have to reschedule. We have given our venue until April 14, as the flowers would need to be ordered April 16. If the quarantine is not lifted by April 14, we are going to reschedule to the summer/fall. It really sucks... but at the end of the day, everyone is trying to make things work as best as they know how in uncharted territory like this. Ontario's COVID cases are increasing by the day, so hopefully they start to show a decrease soon. STAY INSIDE EVERYONE!!! Lol

Its terrifying to hear the venue not offering their services to the fullest given the situation. They chose not the dates upon their decision and not complying to waive the cancellation charge. I know its frustrating to feel uncomfortable with the family not travelling and having the date unsecure. Ask in April to see where the situation lies and if they would consider moving the date forward then waiving the charge. I hope the best for you two.

Did they give you a date that they would postpone your wedding if covid isn’t settled by then?

    Wow that is super frustrating.

I hope everything works out for you!

Many venues in our area are going month by month for anyone wanting to postpone. Maybe if this goes on longer, they will extend the date for individuals wanting to postpone to a later date.

They posted a letter saying who ever has an event from March 12 to May 12 can postpone with no additional cost, but I’m may 16! So now I have to wait till they decide to extend the dates Smiley sad I just want to postpone already before all the dates are taken. So stressful!

I’m so sorry to hear that. Liberty Grand has been great with us. I haven’t postponed yet, even though mine is in Aug they were willing to work with me given the circumstances. I’m so sorry your Venue is not cooperating
