Masks?

Charlotte, on April 30, 2021 at 11:40 Posted in Plan a wedding 0 31
Planning a small outdoor wedding for the summer. Debating on getting face masks for wedding party and/or guest.
What are your thoughts? Necessary? Tacky? Waste of money? Reusable? Disposable? Customized? Colour? Where to purchase?

Masks should be mandatory if the case is not yet given full go ahead of being safe to go out without them. Distancing would help your guests breathing without them wearing once seated for the ceremony. Safety should be on the minds to not cross or get anyone getting sick. I would certainly be aware of others as in not knowing if they have their shot taken or not and take chances. A sign can be made to ensure your guests can be aware and masks provided if needed for the safety of your day.

    Congratulations.

Tough times and so many things to consider for people's safety. As the host you want to be comfortable and for your guests to be comfortable and safe! It's not worth the risk not having them. When your guests enter have someone greeting them handing them a mask if they are not wearing it and giving them sanitizer to use before entry.

I know you can get white or black masks if you don't want the blue.

    Be safe.

Honestly it’s only because my fiancé’s sister got married last year and so many people that were there are also invited to ours and they were not following rules at all or being safe. (About 75% came without masks at all). It really shook us up that day. It’s mostly for those select people 🤪 We don’t want to exclude them but we don’t want anyone to act unsafely at our wedding.

No one. I'm just thinking worse case scenario because that's how I work.
I no where imply that I think it'll be required in a year.

Who has told you masks will be required a year in advance? Not that I’m doubting it, I’d likely plan for it but you make it sound like someone has told you it will be required.

    That’s an interesting idea!!
We believe guests will be respectful. We are comfortable with guests not wearing masks when distance is maintained (as it is outside). But want to also be respectful of the rules and others comfort levels.

I'm still a year out, but if for some reason we still need masks, I've started looking into transparent ones for us, wedding party, & officiant. If need be I'll ask guests if they could come with a solid colour mask, if some don't oh well but less Riders/sports, or fandom masks the better.

We bought some of the plain old blue ones at shoppers. We were going to order lavender masks to match the wedding but then decided it was just one more expense for the wedding. I doubt many will be used since people are pretty use to needing their masks everywhere. But we have 100 masks as backup ready for anyone not taking it seriously. We have a person hired for the ceremony to handle enforcing the rules so that we don’t have to be policing our guests. Anyone who doesn’t like it will be able to just be annoyed about the overactive staff 🤣

They are rapid test not PCR and therefore can be purchased. They don’t need to be administered by a health professional. I have had a variety of clients bring them back from US and Hungary and they test themselves anytime they don’t feel well. I am just giving a option others may have not thought of you can choose to agree or not. Sometimes in different times you need to think out of the box. Just because Canada is not putting value in rapid tests doesn’t mean it’s off the table.

So you're going to send everyone to a Lyfe Labs to get tested on your wedding day? Cuz regular people can't administer the test, only trained health care professionals.

You understand that the government doesn’t control all of the Antigen rapid tests. Where do you think the movie sets, warehouses etc get them. Not from the government. Private individuals can get them if they search or even bring them from out of country.

If you're talking about the PCR tests, they were released to some long term care and retirement homes, day care centres, and priority workplaces like warehouses and construction sites. And the antigen test is not only not as accurate but are only available at select pharmacies and community hot spots. There's not even enough rapid tests to be allocated for schools. I highly doubt the government have a stash available so people can have personal gatherings.

I think having a few extra masks for your guests who forget them or lose them is a good idea but I wouldn't spend a lot of money on them

I wouldn't waste money on it unless you're a stickler for a complete match. I like to think if you gave your bridal party a heads up, they should be able to obtain their own fashionable mask suitable for the occasion.

I definitely wouldn't spend money on a guest's mask though but would have a pack handy so that if someone shows up without one, there's one for them to wear. Not sure what you're communicating with your guests about adherence to mask wearing but hopefully no one will fight you on it if you're adamant about them being masked.

Absolutely! Ours were custom ones from the seamstress (mind matched my dress) but otherwise the masks were a small cost to add consistency and cohesiveness (which was a big deal to me for our black tie optional wedding). If we have to wear masks, let's at least make it look good!!

Our wedding is outside so no need for them outside. Worse comes to worse we will say we are a protest. Lol.

Half of our 25 guest already have their first shot which means they will have both shots by our wedding in July and hopefully the other half will also have theirs first (if they choose). I’d love to not use masks but there are government (and public health) rules and restrictions to consider.

Yes, that’s what I’m thinking - additional cost that isn’t going to be used again.

No masks at our wedding if there is any concerns in September we will rapid test our guests. By September we should be fully vaccinated anyways.

I personally wouldn’t do customized. I don’t think it’s something people will reuse and it just seems like an unnecessary cost. But I’d try to get something in a nicer colour than the standard blue because they’ll inevitably end up in some photos. Black or white would be a safe bet.

We did buy masks for everyone because if masks had to be in pictures, and we had to look out and see masks, we wanted cohesiveness. I would have lost it if I saw a blue disposable mask!! It was easy to match ours as they were wearing black haha. The bridal party (and our moms) had black sequined ones from Nordstrom Rack (dresses had beading/sparkle) and the boys wore the Costco black disposable ones, as did the rest of our guests! This was a cheap option, they actually look good, they aren't medical grade but they are good masks, and they are comfortable!

We bought customized ones for me, FH, our parents, and siblings in our wedding colour and I love them! We'll also be getting just generic ones for guests just in case they forget their own, but nothing fancy. I bought the customized ones Etsy from a lady in Toronto and they were shipped/delivered really quickly.

I think having masks available just in case someone forgets/loses theirs is a smart thing to do.
