Mask Concerns

Nicole, on October 17, 2020 at 18:28 Posted in Plan a wedding 0 5
I am looking at pulling the trigger on booking a wedding date (November 28, 2021) however I am concerned about the mandatory mask bylaw that is currently in effect in Alberta. As it stands right now, we (& our guests) would have to wear a mask through the ceremony, walking to/from our table for dinner, and throughout the night while dancing/mingling. I am looking for some opinions on whether proceeding with 2021 is a good idea, or if postponing to 2022 or beyond might be the smarter bet.

Masks wouldn't be as concerning if your guests do keep their distance as required and at the table for reception since the seating would be set by the venue. The dancing may be uncertain depending on the situation set by the venue. Outdoors shouldn't be an issue unless regulations are set by the government.

I echo Michelle. If you absolutely don't want masks at your wedding, then postponing would be the way to go as it buys you more time and a higher probability masks won't be mandated. There's no guarantees of course as none of us back in March thought we'd be in this position in October.

We had an outdoor wedding luckily. Guests wore a mask in the church, not all though. Bridal party didn’t. I think it’s safest to have an outdoor wedding is possible depending on venue or time of year. Covid is very unpredictable now and who knows if the waves will continue!

If you don’t want to see masks at your wedding, then I would consider postponing. More and more people are wearing them even if it’s not mandatory. November 2021 is still a year away so you have some time to wait and see what happens. I personally would wait to decide, but my wedding is for May 2021 and I’m holding out until February to make a decision on postponing again, or maybe eloping lol

This is very difficult to answer because everything is very uncertain. I had my wedding last weekend, and the mask bylaw was not a problem.
