Marriage License amidst Covid-19 (ontario)

Haylee, on April 16, 2020 at 09:28 Posted in Plan a wedding 0 10

Summer brides who are still planning to go ahead with their weddings.. I want to know.. are you concerned about obtaining a license at this point? City Hall is still closed where I'm at. End of April would be when we were planning to get the license, but I'm worried that won't happen. We may go the route of having Banns read over our church's virtual Sunday meetings if that's allowed (our pastor is checking into it). That would sure save a lot of stress. I'm just wondering some ideas for plans as far as the legalities go with working around this.

I just learned St Thomas is still issuing them by appointment only, but that is a 3.5 hour drive for me. I'm really hoping other places will start issuing them soon.

To my knowledge Ontario has not been issuing licences, unless it's an emergency to try to prevent gatherings. I'm hoping this service will be one of the first to be rolled out. I live in Barrie and city hall is not issuing, neither are the adjacent townships like Essa etc. Fingers crossed it is resolved sooner than later.

I anyone else getting as antsy as I am? We're now within the 90 days for our wedding and I'm seriously stressing over this marriage license thing... I know I maybe shouldn't be? But I just can't help but be worried over this. From what I can tell, there are no municipalities in my area still issuing them. Anyone out there have any luck in finding a marriage license?

I heard St Thomas is still issuing tjem. My photographer had a bride who got hers last week from them.

I would imagine the city of Toronto will set something up in order for licenses to be issued.

In our province they were issuing them if your wedding fell before a certain date, I think to limit the number of people applying since the staff are reduced. Check your provincial websites response to covid and their steps for getting married.

I also agree with asking your officiant if they know how the procedure is happening right now.

Try reaching out to your JoP to see if they have suggestions on how to apply for the license.

Here in NS there is an office you can call to apply

    Hi!

I work for a Municipality here in Ontario. In the GTA

As of right now we are opening on June 15, 2020. I don't know what that means for our clerk department that issues these licenses.

I have asked around to some colleagues at different cities/towns also. I can report back.

I do suggest you contact a larger municipality in your area as they most likely have critical staff working/answering phones who can answer your questions if they have a plan for re opening!

I heard from another Bride maybe Barrie Ontario was still issuing marriage licenses.

Are government buildings like city hall the only place that issue the licenses in Ontario? (Here in MB you can get the license from the government, jewellery stores, and officiants.)
