Marriage licence in Ontario

Tatiana, on February 26, 2018 at 09:53 Posted in Ontario 0 6

Hi,

We are applying for our marriage license and I am assuming my husband’s name, do I add his name to the marriage license application? How does this process work? Went to the website but nothing about this specifically.

Thanks!!

Follow the instructions that are on the form. It tells you which name to put and where. You can assume your husband's name after the marriage is recorded with the province.

If it's similar to Alberta, you both will need to show ID so the names on the application need to match the names on your photo ID.

I believe you just write your given name since you won't legally have his name untill you change it after the wedding. So if you used his name on the application it wouldn't be legal.
