Makeup Artist problem!!!

Christina, on July 17, 2019 at 12:57 Posted in Beauty 0 5

Hello beautiful community!

I’m reaching out to all my fellow brides for some sound advice about my makeup artist. So I know this makeup artist through a mutual friend and we were somewhat friends in high school. Anyways, long story short I ended up doing two trials with her (I had to leave early during the first trial due to a family emergency). This was months ago and although she said I would receive a contract, I never did.

I asked her recently again and now, two weeks later, she says should doesn’t have one template that she uses but she’ll sign a contract I have to draw up!!!!!

Am I being too harsh on her lack of professionalism or should I start looking elsewhere?

I’d love to hear your thoughts 😓I think she’s great but I’m not willing to pay someone who doesn’t take this seriously.

I have had the same thing as Tori- I know for example the dj offered to make one or for us to make points in an email and both state we agree in a final email to make a type of contract.

It depends, like Tori said, if it's more of a hobby for her, she might not know how write a proper/fair contract up so it might be helpful for you to write a small one up - just cover how she gets paid (i.e. paid before make up starts), a cancellation policy, date/time and location of make up application, how many applications she's doing, etc.

However, if she is a professional and does this for a living, I'd be a little more concerned. I would push for her to write it up then, and if she is not moving on the issue, start looking for someone else. The contract protects both the professional and the client.

My hair dresser (not the one I'm using for my wedding) was doing make up for a wedding, it was a one off because the person the bride had originally hired couldn't do it. He took it upon himself to make a little contract for the bride to sign just so there was a paper trail, and he covered his bases.

So if she doesn't have a contract, or even something written in an email I would start looking for someone else really soon. If you are stuck on her doing it, I would have her make a contract, or make up a small contract yourself for her to sign

Absolutely think that she's not being professional. You should look elsewhere. I've never heard of a business person asking you to draw up your own contract. That doesn't happen.

To be fair - half of my vendors are very reputable and don't use contracts. They use emails as their "contracts"...

I would say that it doesn't sound like a full-time job and just like a hobby for her though. Nothing wrong with that - in fact it might be better that you make up the contract. Make sure to put in the contract that she is responsible for if she cancels - meaning not only does she have to find somebody else to do your makeup, but also for the same price and not more money.

I would look around first, but I don't think it's too big of a red flag for me. Heck, I'm not getting my own makeup done professionally!
