Make up concerns

So I am a black female getting married in London ON in February of 2023. I found a make up artist who is going to charge me $285 for a trial job, day of make up, lashes and administrative fees. She has pictures that indicate she has experience working on dark skin. I absolutely love her communication style and feel confident she would do a good job.

Now I found another makeup artist who is going to charge me the same amount of money, but would be able to do my mom, maid of honor and bridesmaid as well🙌🏽 That price is fantastic!! But I have a couple of concern:
1. Her Facebook profile says she's been in business for 14 years but she only has 3 followers 🧐
2. She has very limited pictures and none of them are women of color.
3. She does not have a website. She does not have Instagram. For some reason, this concerns me lol.
4. She's an hour away from my city and lives in a small town. I'm sure there is limited black folk there.
5. She does not take a deposit due to covid. For some reason, I associate this with having an easier way of backing out.
Of course, her abilities will be determined at my trial run, keeping that in mind, what would you ladies do? Go with the experienced local person or less expensive out of towner? I just don't want to find myself without a makeup artist due to inclement weather.
Thank you for your feedback ladies and gents💞

Im pretty in agreeance with everyone here. While I agree with your concerns, there could be some reasons why she doesn't have those but does still not feel like a great impression for brides.

Personally, I paid $240 for hair and make up (both day of and trail) and was 100% worth it. I never felt more beautiful than I did on the day of my wedding.

Don't cheap out on someone who is putting stuff on the skin of faces of people you love. The last thing you want is something unhygienic on your, your mom's, or your bridal party's face.

$285 for a trial and bridal makeup is very reasonable based on prices my wife looked up. To split that for the same cost four ways clearly means they are cutting corners somewhere or they don't have the experience to justify higher prices.

    Good morning Elizabeth,

I had a trial for my daughter and myself-she was so amazing I booked her before our trial was over! She is in Brampton and does travel and most importantly has experience with different skin tones. If you want her details, let me know.

What concerns me abut the details you listed are admin fees? What the heck? If any business won't take a deposit when booking I would walk or run away....

I would stay away from someone who has no followers or social media. Unless she offers a trial were you can see her work on you first before you hire. Julie is right sounds sketchy.

I would look on local wedding groups you may be able to find better deals and someone with more experience.

How you look and feel on your wedding day is super important! I would go with the makeup artist you feel confident in!

I agree with Julie, it seems odd that they have been in the business for 15 years and don't even have a Instagram to show their work, even in the early days. I would be very hesitant on booking with this person and instead of paying for all the services I would book just a make up application with her for like a birthday party or even Christmas party. I

Go with your gut. This is an important day and you need certainty, stress free.

Thank you so much for your feedback. The person I wanted gave me a list of people she recommended. The local experienced person was one of them.

My instincts are telling me your right!

Omg im feel uncertain about my makeup person i booked as well. Rescheduled my trial 2x already. Not happy about that so I have started looking around.
If this person has no work to view, no reviews, no social media, no references, not much to go on, I would be very weary. Sounds sketchy. You need to have certainty not anxiety. Even though it may be cheaper with more services, there may be a travel fee, or fine print to watch out for.
