Looking for Indigenous Elders who can Officiate Marriages

Kayla, on March 31, 2021 at 14:34 Posted in Manitoba 0 3
Hi there,

We’re planning on getting married in April of 2022. I’m hopping to incorporate as much as my culture into our ceremony and reception as possible. Wondering if anyone in the Southern Manitoba region knows of any Indigenous elders or knowledge keepers who can marry us at our wedding ceremony?

    Shelly has a good idea.

Here's another website that may help. It has a nice breakdown of the different tribal councils. The tribal councils will probably be a good place to start, as the banner under the map shows each tribal council has multiple bands they deal with so it saves you some extra calling around.

That's such a wonderful idea!! I don't know of any Indigenous elders in Southern Manitoba BUT you can check which traditional Indigenous land/territory you're on (or which Indigenous territory your wedding will be taking place on) here: https://native-land.ca /. Then you can reach out to the individual Indigenous community (search their individual facebook, websites etc.) and see if they have anyone who may be able to officiate.
