Local Vendors or Travel fee

Cass, on May 28, 2021 at 17:52 Posted in Plan a wedding 0 5
So... I'm a little stuck. We decided on a venue that was a bit of a drive away from where we live, and are struggling to decide if we should pick vendors that are willing to travel/deliver, or local vendors that are recommended or we find as we go along. suggestions? looking at it for things like, makeup, cake and florals...

Vendors don't usually charge travel cost unless they have it in their contracts depending on the location area. I was told by one about this in the Brampton area to come towards Innisfil location. I didn't go with that particular one. You can ask though if they do charge or not. Many will drive out to locations provided your services are with them.

Most people in the GTA should be able to travel to Hamilton without hiked rates. You might get an odd few who will but they're close enough to each other that it's not a major travel issue. It'd be different if it was like Toronto to Kingston.

It also depends on the vendor. A DJ company that services the entire Golden Horseshoe probably won't charge extra but a baker in Toronto who needs to keep the cake in a cool truck might.

    Hello Cass,
I had a similar situation with deciding venue and the vendor. The good thing was that we had a few venue options that we were looking at while we have the caregiving vendor. One of the location was about 20-30 minutes away and they were telling us an additional $700 was to be added. So, you really have to see where you went to spend your money or how good it is to spend that additional money. You have sometime to still play around with the vendors and venues to make it manageable on your end. I wish you all the best! 🥂

Thanks for the advice! We are super preliminary in our planning (we're not getting married until fall 2022), so I think for us its trying to find 1. a place to start and 2. trying not to out guess covid restrictions. Our venue is in the Hamilton area, but we are based out of York Region/Toronto, so theres definitely an over abundance of options...(part of the problem when no one knows what exactly they want).

I would research both and just go with the vendors you want to book and fit within your budget - obviously include travel/delivery costs when you're making these decisions. If you find a vendor you really like but they need to travel it may be worth paying them extra for travel/delivery. Or you may find local vendors are more expensive and it's cheaper to pay the ones in your area to deliver. It's super hard to say without knowing what two areas you're talking about since pricing can vary a lot city to city.

The only non-cost related pro/con I can think of is the travel involved in choosing your vendors. Obviously it's easy to take 30 minutes or an hour out of your day to go check out a vendor local to you, but if you need to make a day trip out of it that makes things more difficult unless you're willing to book someone without meeting them.
