Limited time wedding

Melissa, on November 12, 2020 at 23:13 Posted in Plan a wedding 0 4

Help!! My fiancé’s father is severely sick with a heart condition, kidney failure and diabetes and we honestly don’t know how long he has left. Also my mom is in and out of the hospital too with kidney problems and copd.
We need to plan our wedding ASAP and I don’t know where to start. We need a place fast but with covid it’s hard to find. It will be only about 10 people. We won’t modern courthouses but are willing for a cute town hall or courthouse type. I don’t know where get a dress fast and I’m not a size 2 either.. we are losing our minds. I live in Quebec and things are limited here due to covid. Any help would be great before I lose More of my mind..🤯🤯

I'm so sorry Melissa. Maybe a popup style wedding would work?

I'm not sure what restrictions you have right now but these type of venues take care of everything and some of them are so beautiful. You may only need your clothes and licence. I think the price would be better than the stress. Not sure it helps but I hope you have a beautiful day woth those you love.

Not much help with all the legal/practical stuff but maybe check out Boutique 1861's Boudoir line for dresses: https://1861.ca/collections/boudoir-1861

The store is in Montreal. They are off the rack dresses so fit might be an issue, but it doesn't sound like you have time for custom tailoring. Remember, a veil can make anything look more bridal in a pinch, that's why they always "jack up" the bride on Say Yes to the Dress.

I have heard of hospital ceremonies so your parents don't have to leave during their care and have and Officiant present to marry you both. A good website to get an Officiant quick is allseasons.com for an early date and inquire about a marriage license in your city to get in time.

You can wear a dress you have already or just from retail store for your ceremony.

I hope this works out and to hope your parents will be with you both for longer than the time given.

I'm sorry to hear this, Melissa.

For a dress, can you get a white dress from a department store? Simon's and The Bay? It may not be a traditional wedding dress but they do have white options in a cocktail dress or poplin, and more if you're willing to go off-white. Le Chateau is also clearing their inventory due to bankruptcy with a lot of online exclusive prices going for less than $200 so maybe you can find something there as well?

Courthouses are likely a no go due to covid since all government offices will likely be essential services only. Does the hospital have a chapel you can use? That might be your only plan since your parents are in the hospital, it's not likely they can leave anytime they want.

You'll need to find an officiant. If you're religious and attend a church or institution of some kind for services, that would be the easy way or you can find a civil servant. Do you have your marriage license yet? You'll need to get that at your respective government's office. If they're not issuing any to the general public, your parents health might constitute an emergency for them to give an exemption. Contact them to find out.
