Let's talk hotel blocks!

Joey, on September 5, 2017 at 08:05 Posted in Before the wedding 0 12

Are you setting up a hotel block for your guests to use? How many hotels did you pick? How did you share the info about the blocks with your guests? How early did you set up your block? Did your hotel help you secure any discounts?

I found hotel blocks to be one of the more confusing parts of wedding planning, so I wanted to have a space for us to ask questions and share ideas together!

If you're still stuck on your hotel situation, here are 7 Essential Questions You Need to Answer Before Reserving Hotel Room Blocks.

The hotel the wedding is booked at included some room blocks, 10 for the night before and 30 the night of. Although I feel like it's not enough since there is a lot of out of town guests coming from far away so most would probably want to stay both nights.

I booked The Lodge for my immediate family and some rooms on my floor in the main building for friends and husband's family. Total of 26 rooms and everyone booked under their credit card

We are looking at blocking off rooms at a local university residence. It's a little more convenient for our guests taking public transit.

I also have a friend looking at Airbnb and splitting a house with a few other couples.

What if my guests are whining about the cost of my rooms? I blocked off 24 rooms, which also pushed my budget up by $500. Should I just tell them to go elsewhere, because really if I dont have to block off as many rooms, then my budget will probably go down. Stresssss

ps-- I hate all the invitations ive looked at...theyre so old fashioned and boring

We reserved 20 rooms at the hotel we are getting married in and let them know on our wedding website of the hotel thats in the same parking lot as ours so that they can book there as well. They are both very similar in price, even with the discount we are getting at our hotel.

We didn't secure a block, since there aren't really any hotels lose to our venue. We have an all adult guest list, so they are fine to sort out designated drivers. I haven't been to many weddings where there was a hotel block reserved for guests, so we didn't worry too much about it.

I'm not booking hotel blocks. I figure if the guests want to come, they can figure those things out on their own.

We had a block of rooms set aside at the nearest hotel for our guests. They could stay wherever they liked but we told them that we were getting a group discounted rate at that particular hotel. We sent out an e-mail relatively quickly after our save the dates so that people could have the most time. We told them that if they had any trouble they should contact us and we would sort it out.

We secured a hotel block right around the corner from the venue. There are not a lot of options in the area so I wanted to make sure we had some people covered. I listed it all on the website and reminded my out of town guests right before they released the rooms.

The venue we chose has 3 different ceremony sites and each site has it's own rooms. So for our site they had automatically reserved I think it was 10 rooms for our wedding. My family is all from out of town so they will be staying there and the bride and groom get a free night the night of the wedding. It was easy to tell everyone about the rooms because we have such a small guest list so we knew who would want a room and who wouldn't.

We are getting married at a resort and secured a block of condos/cottages for out of town guests (about half are not local to the venue). These accommodations are reserved until 3 months prior to the wedding so I am sending out the info with our save the dates in November. This will give people almost 4 months to book. The resort is giving guests a 10% discount, and if we book 15 rooms, we get our accommodations for free!

We didn't secure hotel blocks. On my wedding website, I listed all the hotels in Peterborough, this way guests could stay at whatever hotel they wanted, and I didn't want to book blocks in 6 different hotels - that would get confusing I feel like. We also opened my house to a couple people in our family!
