I love the separated look when its done well... Kind of like the photo, where they are floating and the height difference makes it look like a modern tiered cake... When it's the same size cake, on same height pedestals, I think it looks bad.

I would probably have one stacked for cake cutting pictures and then separate for guests so it’s easier to cut to make sure guests get equal pieces.

I prefer the look of stacked but it would be nice to create a bit of a story in the flow of the displayed stacked cakes.

I like stacked but I do love what my parents had which was both. It was like a tower almost with both sides being separate leading to the middle where it became stacked.
