Let’s discuss tipping

Desiree, on February 12, 2020 at 11:36 Posted in Plan a wedding 0 10
Let’s discuss tipping for vendors, is this mandatory, is expected and if so how do you figure out how much to tip? I don’t wanna low ball or go over the top. I’m just trying to think ahead way ahead we have a very tight budget and I don’t want any shocks on our wedding day when it comes to cost.

I dont think its mandatory i think its based on what you want too. we are strapped for cash so i will be doing TONS of personalized reviews on all the websites for our vendors!

Our gratuities have been included with almost all of our vendors including hair and makeup, which is nice because then it is one less thing I need to stress about or think of someone to put in charge of. There is a ton of referencing guides on Pinterest that can help guide you a bit if you need. I would first double check your quotes to make sure that they haven't included them already or you can even ask them if they include gratuities on their quotes.

I agree. I’m normally good with tipping but why should I be tipping someone on top of what I’m paying when it’s so high? Especially vendors who are the owners and set their own prices

Gratuities are included with our caterer/servers and bartenders as well as our on-site wedding coordinators so I probably won't go over the top with that, but will give something extra.

Hair and make up I'm going to tip what I normally would for these services.

Our DJ, photographer, officiant I am not 100% sure yet.

Tipping is not mandatory. We tipped our DJ, hair and makeup artist, photographer, limo driver and officiant. We gave each of them an additional $100.

Its upon the couple to tip or not tip. Financially if you have the extra money, tip on how you feel the vendor has gone beyond your expectation. Your paying for their services directly to the owner.

Personally, tipping wasn't an option for us due to no extra money saved up for the day. A Thank You card was given to the vendors for their services.

Im not tipping unless a vendor has gone above and beyond for me. the prices they charge us are just ridiculous!! we cant afford to tip everyone on the thousands we have been paying.... however i will be writing GREAT reviews for all my vendors on all their websites!!

We are tipping the following vendors the day of - hair/make up artist, dj, photographers and videographers, bartending staff, limo driver. I THINK thats it. FH is taking care of the amounts... so I'm not sure what hes thinking but probably between $50-100 each.

I've read that if your vendor owns their business you don't need to tip them (but of course can if they go above and beyond) but if they are a member of the staff you tip them.

I plan to buy a little thank you gift for our photographer in lieu of a tip since she is self employed, but our venue I will tip because of all their staff.

We were tight on our budget so this is how we decided:

    1. Vendors who had it already in their bill were not tipped

    2. Vendors who were self employed (most DJ's, the officiant, etc.) set their own prices so we only tipped if they went above and beyond

    3. Vendors who work for a big company (like the dining staff) we tipped

The way we decided how much to tip was NOT by percentage - we would have been out an arm and a leg if you did the usual 10% type of tipping! Instead we tipped mostly everybody either an extra $50 (officiant), or $20 (food staff). If you feel like they did a really good job then I would say to tip as high as $100. We also tipped the bar staff by providing their meals.
