Lack of communication from venues

Is anyone else struggling with venues simply not getting back to them for a 2022 wedding? We found a venue we love (actually, it’s the only option we’ve seen that would work for what we want, within our budget) but the manager is not getting back to us.


Setting up a site visit was challenging enough - no one answered my messages but I finally got through to someone in person. Now it’s over a month since we visited and the manager hasn’t returned any of my emails or the messages I’ve left. We did not meet the manager at the visit, so we are still lacking crucial information such as precise costs. I am being very polite and have given him over a week between emails but I’m more than a little concerned at this point. Most recently I left a message with the front desk (it’s an inn and they are open currently) requesting he touch base with me to set up a time to chat over the phone. This was last Thursday and still nothing. I’m trying to accommodate for life and business disruptions due to Covid, but at what point do I give in? Places are already booking up around here for 2022 weddings so I’m definitely not appreciating being left in limbo.

    Its hard enough to know you want answers, yet not getting back to getting call back. This manager doesn't seem to take clients serious and make the time to do his due diligence effort to reach out to you. It may be time to move on and see alternative locations and get the answers you do want and speak to the manager on site per request to know they are free to talk.

    I do hope you get the venue of your choice and everything works out in your budget.

    Good luck! Maybe talk to some of the places you've previously looked at and ask what they can do with your budget?

    Yeah... In that case, I'd move on. You've given them enough chances and in times when getting any business is tough, I'm sure there are vendors who will appreciate a new client.

    It’s not part of a larger chain unfortunately so I don’t think I have anyone else I can contact. I’m fairly certain the manager is still there as when I spoke to the front desk they said they would give him my message.

    Maybe the manager was laid off due to the pandemic? Is this inn part of a larger hotel chain? If so, there's usually a Director level executive in charge or catering that a event manager or wedding coordinator reports to. But simultaneously, I would start exploring other options.

    I have tried calling as well. I just don’t understand why they’re being so unresponsive! I don’t really know where to go from here either as it’s not exactly prime wedding venue search time. I just feel like they’ve really wasted our time and put us behind schedule.

    Oh that's really frustrating! Just to confirm, you've tried calling them in addition to emailing? If they aren't returning emails or phone calls, unfortunately I agree with Hank that it might be time to move on. Even though this is your ideal venue, the way they communicate (or don't) could end up being a big issue in the future. The last thing you want to deal with as you get closer to your wedding is an unresponsive or uncooperative venue.

    Ugh, so sorry you're going through this. Personally I would move on just because it's not worth the hassle of having to deal with a flaky team on such a big day but I understand that options are not as plentiful where you are compared to the GTA.
