Kinda New, Kinda Not

Tolu, on March 4, 2020 at 19:52 Posted in Plan a wedding 0 21

Hey Ya'll,

So I joined WW back in 2018, that was when my fiance and I started talking about getting married. We officially got engaged last year and decided to have our wedding on March 25, 2021. Initially, I was using wedding wire as my planning tool but then decided to hire a wedding planner. Fast forward, I had to let my wedding planner go and now I'm kind of back to square one and I've decided to plan things on my own. What are some things you all did to keep yourselves organized and not feel overwhelmed?

You are welcome! Anytime I start to feel antsy about it I just go back to my excel sheet and go over everything and then I know I have captured it all. So good call!

    Hey Stefanie,

Hahahaha! Its totally be okay to be OCD when it comes to organizing. Thing will be exactly how you want them to be. Things could definitely get overwhelming when you have multiple things going on but having a daily planner really helps...I'll actually look into getting one as well.

    Hi Sarah,

Thank you so much for this. I totally understand what you are saying. Initially, I got the wedding planner because I thought it would help but ended up kinda making me feel uneasy. Maybe because a lot of things I felt were getting done in a timely manner. As soon as I let me planner go, I reached out to all my family and just let them know that all hands on deck. I know things will all come together so I'm excited about everything.

That's amazing! I took your advice and i created folders in my email, that made me feel so much more organized and now I am actually enjoying this whole planning thing. In the beginning, I was just feeling so flustered! Thank you Tori

You're absolutely right! I secured a few vendors last year so I'm really happy about that. I will be using the WW app a lot more to keep me on track. When I first joined, I didn't really know what I wanted or what I was looking for. Now that I'm back I'm able to really utilize WW they way I am supposed to. Thanks for the advice Smiley smile

I started a binder and made notes in my phone.I kept track of all of my receipts by putting them in a folder in the binder and kept contracts all together.I hit up the Facebook marketplace,fb wedding groups and craigslist for decor. Our budget it $21,000 and so far I’m under budget at roughly $16,000.I never wanted a wedding planner as I want full control but it does get stressful.Be sure to ask friends, family and your fiancé for help with the planning most people love helping and have some great ideas.Be sure to step away from the planning when you get overwhelmed or you could potentially turn into bridezilla lord knows I’ve had my moments. Most importantly have fun and don’t worry too much somehow weddings always come together.

    Welcome back and congrats!

I've used a variety of things actually (my FH says I'm kinda OCD when it comes to organizing Smiley xd ). When we got engaged one of my bridesmaids purchased, The Wedding Planner Binder from The Knot, it has everything in it that can help keep you organized and I have also used WW for things as well. I also have a daily planner that I take with me everywhere because with work, kids, wedding, and our house that is being built, it has been my sanity. Anyways, at the back of each month, I have a list of things I need to have done during that month to keep me on track. I just cross things off as I go along.

Welcome back! No wedding planner here either.

I use a combination of the wedding wire checklist and then an excel document with tabs for each aspect to stay organized.

Budget tab, to do list tab, vendor tab, DIY tab, etc.

    Good to have you back!

Best thing for me was to use the checklist here on WW (but needed to delete/add some things to better fit my wedding needs), and then in my email I created a Wedding folder with subfolders for DJs, Venues, Photographers, etc. to keep it all nice and neat.

That and went to a couple wedding shows with sticker label sheets!! Saves a bunch of time and you never know what you might win!

Planned very early- researched and booked vendors as early as possible... this allowed a bit of time off from planning for a few months down the road. It also helped when a few things went wrong- I had lots of time to fix it. I would also use the WW app daily- just to keep track. It’s helped a lot, especially with watching the budget in real time. Good luck with your planning 🙂

I just made a word table basically and numbered all my vendors, included monies I’ve paid, when monies are due and next steps (ie follow up with limo; buy rings etc).

Not sure mine is unique! I just made it into something I was comfortable with.

    Hi Kelsie,

Thank you so much for your advice. I'm in the process of creating a binder, any advice on how you went about creating yours to make it unique? Any pictures of your binder possibly?

Welcome baaaack!! I didn’t use a wedding planner for my wedding and I feel I’m still organized.

I created a binder of my own that includes all vendors, pricing, next steps so I always know where I am in my planning.
I have email folders for every vendor which is pretty organized.
I made excel spreadsheets for our guest list and expenses so I know how much money we need and what we’ve paid etc (WeddingWire also has a great budget planner I use!)

Thank you Amelia! Those are some helpful tips. I started a spreadsheet over the weekend and that really lightened the load I was feeling. Its so nice to kind of have everything in one place. I'll definitely check out the youtuber you suggested.

    Thanks again! Smiley smile

    Hey Laura,

Thanks for your reply. I have a wedding email and also a wedding binder that I keep all my contracts and quotes in and that has really helped me out. With having to let my wedding planner go, it was kind of a shocker and a surprise so everything kinda hit me at once. But I'll definitely look into getting a wedding book as well.

Welcome back! I hope we can help keep you on track with all your wedding planning to do.

for me I have a spreadsheet that keeps me organized. I made pages on it for our guest list with RSVPs, vendor contact info and quotes, our budget, and important dates.
I also looked at a few planning printables on blogs and used them as jumping off points because our wedding it less traditional I didn't need everything they were putting on their checklists.
I've been watching a YouTuber called Jamie Wolfer at the suggestion of someone on here and I have found her to be helpful too. She has a few videos about things your guests don't care about, and what to focus on if you're a budget bride.

Definitely get yourself a wedding email and buy or make a wedding planner book and keep all of your vendor quotes, contracts etc together to help with organization.
