Is it too early to start booking vendors?

Emily, on March 28, 2019 at 00:26 Posted in Plan a wedding 0 14

Hi Everyone! My wedding is not till June 27th, 2020 and I'm just wondering how soon is too soon to start booking stuff..haha. We already have the venue, photographer, officiant, and DJ booked. Now I am looking into catering. My mom is coming to visit me in May and wants to go for a tasting, but I'm wondering if its too soon? Or is it a good idea to book so far ahead for this kind of stuff? After the caterer is there anything else that's good to book in advance?

Thanks for the advice Smiley smile

I don't think it's too soon to book anything to be honest. Especially for a June wedding - prime wedding season. Things will book up fast.

I would book catering to lock in the current pricing. I had booked my reception at a hotel over a year in advance and also confirmed the prices for the buffet menu. The following year they had increased the price per person by $8 for any new bookings. So glad we locked in the price or our dinner cost would have increased by several thousand dollars. I'm from Vancouver and everything gets booked almost 2 years in advance if you're dead set on having certain vendors. So it's never too soon.

If you want a cake for your wedding next year, the fall is the time where cake vendors start doing tastings for 2020 weddings.

There is never too soon when booking wedding vendors! All my vendors have been telling me how they are almost booked up for 2020 already so for sure start booking! One that we were advised to book in advance was the florist because they typically can only accept so many weddings in a month whereas other vendors can do multiple weddings a weekend sort of thing. If you are considering or booking a videographer you can start looking at booking them as well.

I would book! I had to book a year and a half in advance to get the places/vendors I wanted! Just make sure you get contracts for it all and they state the price will stay the same in them if they haven't advised it will change. I would do it all over email or social media the contacting them so they can't go back on their word on anything. I had issues with view vendors saying they told me something and didn't.

Not too soon! Our wedding is Sept 2020 and we have 90% of vendors all booked already! As for tastings, our venue said ours would be Spring of 2020, since menu and supplies change so often Smiley smile

I don't think it is too early to book anything. My wedding is on June 20, 2020 and we have the venue and photographers booked. We don't need to book too much though. We are making our own playlist for the wedding and getting family to help with the cake and the food.

I would start looking now for catering seeing as you have already booked your venue. You need to coordinate your date with caterer as you don't have alternative dates to work with. Be prepared that they may not offer a tasting unless they are booked, and may only offer 1 tasting so make sure you check who can be included in that tasting.

Not at all too soon! That's what I loved about the long engagement, I was able to have my pick of vendors since they weren't booked up yet, and most honoured their 2018 rates for my 2019 wedding. (Most vendors increase pricing each year). Get the big things booked early so you have time to focus on the smaller, but important details!

I think you're at a perfect point to be booking things Emily! I'm very Type-A when it comes to planning my wedding, so I've literally been on top of vendors from day 1 to make sure I was making informed decisions (and I booked a lot of my vendors very early!). I think you should go with your gut and get your caterer taken care of (and doing the tasting with your mom will be fun!).

Not too soon at all! If anything it will show you what they will have seasonally for food! Just make sure to double check the pricing though - they could always increase the price in the new year unless you have it written in the contract!!

For sure not too soon! For most vendors if you book now you will get 2019 prices!

I booked all of mine more than a year in advance. As for the caterer, don't leave it too late, but I think if you start looking in the summer you should be ok.

It’s definitely not too soon. Especially for a June wedding! You’ll probably find a number of places already getting booked up for the weekend. I’d be more concerned that waiting until May won’t give you long enough!
