Is it ok asking for a gift of cash for the weddding? Is so how do you do it?

Hi ladies,

im thinking if I can ask for a gift of cash for my wedding? I'm kinda very strict and I can't trust others taste on buying wedding gifts. My preference is to have the money and buy them myself. How would you let your guest that cash is what you prefer?

A gift is a gift and should not be expected. With that said, it is obvious that your guest will bring a gift for the bride and groom. I personally think it makes someone sound like a money hungry person to ask for cash. It’s appalling that people EXPECT their guests to fill an envelope with money, often times depending on it to pay for a portion of their party.

As a guest, I would expect to be invited to a wedding because I was personally wanted there and would be offended if they requested cash.

As a bride, my only request is that my family and friends are there with me on that day. If they wanna throw a little cash in an envelope, I’m very appreciative. If they bring me a present even better, I love opening presents! There are always things that can be replaced or upgraded in your home, fresh towels? Hell yea. If they show up with just a hug and a kiss I’ll say let’s have a shot!

Don’t expect things, just enjoy the love people have for you. A wedding is supposed to be about live, not money.

We always give cash... and I really don't know anyone who actually gives gifts anymore. I do think it's kind of rude though to specifically ask for money... just don't register anywhere then most people will get that you don't want gifts.

I know some may say it’s rude of offensive but I will be putting somewhere on the invitation “monetary gift preferred”

I would have to agree with you on this for sure! Not having a registry somewhere often speaks for itself. People shouldn’t be told what to bring for a gift.

I personally think it is very rude to ask for cash as a gift anywhere on your invites/wedding website. (and 99% of the time give cash). now if a close friend or family member asks. then tell them cash is preferred. but you shouldn't dictate what someone wants to give you.

if you don't want gifts. don't register anywhere. when people see that, they usually clue in that cash is best.

Like Vinod said - you could put no boxed gifts or you could include something like these in your wedding invitation Smiley smile

Its a way now to give gifts over boxed. Its becoming common. Registery is provided to guests if you are wanting to have replacement home appliances or wares as gifts.
