Invites for Destination Wedding

Lindsay, on February 18, 2019 at 19:34 Posted in Plan a wedding 0 5

Hello to all you destination wedding...ers Smiley tongue

I am really struggling with timelines on when to get invitations/save the dates out!

The resort we have chosen needs a deposit to hold our Wedding Date in May 2020 (very standard)...the kicker is, they will only hold 15 hotel rooms for 90 days after we put our original deposit down. I want to ensure we give people enough time to save and book at our hotel but at the same time, I don't want to wait too long and miss our ideal date!

So my struggles:

1. how can I send out save the dates when I won't know my date?

2. how far in advance do I pay my deposit and send my invitations?

Thanks in advance!!!!!!

I'm not a destination wedding bride, but some things you could consider doing:

    1. Instead of a save the date, you can send out an engagement announcement card to let people know about your destination plans. That way you don't necessarily need your date, but people can expect to be on the lookout!

    2. For Destination weddings, you can't go wrong with sending invites as soon as you book your deposit/secure your date. Especially if you only have so much time with the hotel block - it sounds like they are holding the hotel rooms for 90 days after your deposit is paid, so guests have 90 days to book?

For us, some of our guests booked the hotel soon after we had our deposit/date secured with our venue, so some guests could be eager and book ahead too! I was also informed by the hotel last week that there are 3 weddings the same weekend, so I'm letting guests know who haven't booked yet to do so soon!

Though I'm no destination wedding expert, I would recommend checking Wedding Wire's articles. They have 10 articles dedicated to destination weddings, so you might be able to find answers to your questions Smiley smile

    Congratulations on your engagement!

I don't have experience planning a destination wedding, but I found this article that seems to answer your questions.

    Good luck!
