Invite Help!

Kelsie, on September 2, 2019 at 12:52 Posted in Plan a wedding 0 13
Hey everyone!

I’m trying to figure out what is the “right” way to do invitations for my bridal shower and obviously the wedding.

my bridal shower is May 3 and I need to provide guest count 2 weeks before. So let’s say mid April.

the wedding is July 18 and I need to provide a guest count a month before, June 18.

Should my wedding invite go out before my shower invites? Does it matter?

What have you all done?

Yes! We’re giving ourselves a month of leeway. My FMIL had to chase lots of people from their side for her daughters wedding so I’m all prepared for that lol

If you've sent save the dates out, then your wedding invite can really go out closer to the date. Are the dates you were putting the RSVP deadlines you intend to put on your invitations? If so, may I recommend that you put them earlier. We had to contact several people regarding missing RSVPs (for both my shower and wedding). I think it's just a good thing to have a buffer amount of time just in case!

It would be nice.. but I don't want to confuse people (especially older guests). We had a lot of issues with our Save the Dates I wasn't expecting, so definitely won't be sending both at the same time lol

I dont think it matters what you send out first as the dates will be on the cards. what i would do is double up and send both to save the postage cost hahaha

I sent my wedding invites well before my shower. It really doesn't matter in that way but I would definitely send out your wedding invites first!

That might be an idea! To send the wedding invites one week and the bridal shower ones the following week or the following week after.

I just dont want to confuse people or have people calling up if they get a bridal shower invite first and not the wedding. People will speculate we aren’t inviting them to the wedding and only the bridal shower - dramas lmao

Unfortunately, doing it that way would just confuse my guests. It’d be nice to save on the postage but it isn’t feasible, especially with the older ladies.

Theyre more likely to pull the wedding RSVP out and not even realize there’s a bridal shower card in it or throw it out.

    nice idea though!

Our wedding is October 19 and my shower was August 24.

I sent out my invites for the wedding the last week of June and my mom sent the shower invites the following week since the RSVP for the shower was August 1st. Our wedding RSVPs are September 1st - we wanted to give ourselves room to chase down guests before making the seating plan.

The invites can go out the same time with an insert of the bridal shower of the RSVP date provided. You will find that your saving on the postage than spending twice the amount.

The only thing your seperating for the response dates are the events. Nothing else is being done differently otherwise.

    Awesome! Thanks for your input!!

I have to plan these things ahead, my FSIL currently lives in Seattle.. so everything has to be done a bit early so she has time to make travel arrangements. Wasn't sure if it would be weird to get a bridal shower invitation first. I don't want to send out the wedding invites out too early either because people were already confused by my Save the Dates WITH the year written on it.

My wedding invites went out before both my showers! My Step Mom planned one the week before our wedding because my sister will be home for it. So those invites just went out the beginning of August.
My FMIL has a shower for me in a couple of weeks and her invites just went out a week and a half ago.
It honestly doesn’t matter which order. Most of the time, showers are a few months before weddings anyways. So guests will be used to getting a shower invite before a wedding one.
