In what order do you wear your rings?

Joline, on April 2, 2018 at 18:30 Posted in Wedding fashion 0 27
You get the engagement ring first and the wedding band second. I always thought the wedding band goes above the engagement ring because thats the order you receive them but i see a lot of women with it the other way around. Especially those who opt for an enhancer instead of a band. Thoughts?

I always wondered about that! Where does the engagement ring go the day of the wedding and if there is a particular order in which they go - I have seen both - I guess in my case what's most likely going to happen is that every I'll wear it depending on how I pick them up to put them on.

I know in some parts of the world it is also customary to wear the rings on the right hand instead, at least that what my mom told me. But I think I'll stick to Canada's etiquette.

I wear my wedding band closest to the base of my finger/palm and my engagement ring on top.

This is what I've always heard and seen! Your wedding band goes on your left ring finger first so it's "closest to your heart", then the engagement ring on top!

My FH and I have been together since I was 14, and in our last year of high school (so I was 17) he got me a promise ring. So, I actually have 3 rings. I wear them (top to bottom) promise, engagement, wedding.

    I promise, I will, I do

So my wedding band is closest to my palm. But that’s just me.

That’s my thinking! I wear the bracelet on my right arm already. I took a quick picture to see how it’d look and I love it!

That would be really beautiful! I just tried to find a photo but it's not easily found... haha. My cousin has a photo somewhere. You just wear the bracelet on your right wrist, and string the ring through. Then put it back on after the ceremony Smiley smile

My pinkies (both of them) are too small for the engagement ring Smiley sad

I like your bracelet idea a lot! I have a Pandora bracelet I'm going to wear, so I might clip it in for the ceremony/a few photos and then put it back on my left ring finger.

Oh dear! Does your engagement ring stay on your pinky finger?

You can also have your MOH or mom or even your groom hold on to your engagement ring til after the ceremony.

My cousin wore a bracelet with her wedding ensemble, and I hung our grandma's wedding band from it (we have a tradition each grand child has it in some way, as she will miss all 8 weddings). If you had a bracelet, you could clip it in. Makes for some cute photos.

My left ring finger is a size 5.5 and my right is a size 6.5! This is the only finger on my right side that is bigger than the left so I can't wear my engagement ring on the right side

Yes, the google article states you use the 3rd finger on both hands (the ring finger), and when it says put the engagement ring back next to the wedding band, it means side by side on the same finger.

I remembered that we do not wear the engagement ring on our left hand on the day of the ceremony and replace after but I LOVE this quote I will always remember that now!

You never wear it on your middle or index finger. You wear it on your ring finger on the opposite hand for your ceremony, then put it back on your left ring finger, after your wedding band.

No worries! It took me a couple weddings and being a maid of honour before I figured out that none of the brides walked down the aisle with their ring on the left hand... haha.

The way I always thought of it was:

You get your engagement ring first, but most women don't wear it on their left hand on the actual wedding day (prior to the ceremony), they wear it on the right. So when he places the wedding band on, it's the only ring on that finger. Then after the ceremony, you put the engagement ring back on the left finger, and now its on top.

Aaaand just in case I was totally wrong, I Googled it... haha.

Yep I agree with Kim. A lot of people wear them in the order you receive them so if you’re not traditional then wearing it on top makes sense. I think I’ll wear my wedding band with my engagement ring on top since I’m more traditional and I like how it looks however I’ll eventally have a band on top too since you usually get an Anniversary band as well. We’re going wedding band shopping this weekend so I guess I’ll figure it all out soon!

Traditionally it's the wedding band first, then the engagement ring on top, but I've seen it both ways and think either way is fine, just a personal preference.
