I'm overwhelmed, where do I start?

Ainsley, on June 15, 2019 at 19:11 Posted in Plan a wedding 0 13
Hello all!
I just got this app because it looks amazing and so far I love it!!!

Im just overwhelmed. I don't know where to start. We're planning a wedding for September of next year. My mom is helping as well, but she just moved a 7 hour drive away from me so it's hard to actually sit down and plan.
I have planned a colour scheme (Plum and Silver are the main colors), and I've contacted some venues as well. We have decided on a buffet dinner rather than table service. That is pretty much all I have planned!

Do any of you have any advice for a newly engaged 24 year old?

Make a budget and a rough guest list. then email halls you like and go check them out and pick a date! then decide if you want to have your ceremony at the hall

Congrats on your engagment. Im 24 as well and trust me I get the stress. You are lucky your mom is helping even if you cant be face to face. There are some amazing people on this app that have helped me feel a little less scared and overwhelmed. There is a checklist on here that can help you get more in order. Im feeling like im being pulled in 500 different directions and once one thing clicked that was stressing me out the rest didnt seem so scary. Just take things one step at a time. I started with my wedding party. then colors. then attire. Then I planned out who will take my pictures and what pictures I must have. then i found my officiant. now im working on venue. so far venue has been the biggest obstacle for me. I am doing this 100% by myself. I dont have anyone helping me plan this thing but I have posted a bunch and read others questions and found some ideas. Dont stress. You can add me as a friend if you want and we can fight past this together Smiley smile

    Congratulations on your engagement!

First things are budget and guestlist. Once you have these both figured out, the rest will fall into place. I highly recommend a wedding planning binder like The Knot Ultimate Wedding Planner & Organizer. It helped me visually see what I needed to do and has checklist for fast engagements and longer ones. It's a really nice tool for planning and makes for a great keepsake for afterwards!

Everyone has given a good start to look forward too as you are doing. The guest list helps to know how many to look for and the cost total per head and in whole.

Another way for wedding tasks is a check list that has things to do per months time 12-9 months, 6-9 months, 4-6 months, 3-6months/2-4months and 1 month down. A folder with tabs or sectional can be organized to know where you're at task wise and what is completed and payments to pay at/beforehand the wedding day.

If this helps you go in the right direction. WW also has a checklist and the amounts can be entered to show you the estimate and actual budgets.

Select your date and place where you want to get married. We then simultaniously booked our ceremony location and reception venue which included catering. Followed closely by photographer, videographer, and last was our DJ.

Book a venue as soon as possible, then start looking at the other big vendors (photography, music and entertainment, etc.). It seems like a lot at first, but I find that the checklist on here helps. Some things you can do sooner, but it helps put things in order.

Congrats on your engagement and welcome to WW!

    Congrats on the engagement Ainsley!!

I've got to say - the checklist that they have available to use is great, but don't pay attention to the timeline they give. Most things should be done in the order it gives but sooner than it says. For example, it starts at the 10 to 12 month mark but most venues and some vendors book over a year in advance (the venue we chose is already booking into 2021 at this point).

Congratulations! sounds like you’re off to a good start! my advice would be to get your photographer booked as soon as possible, because they tend to book up fast! then secure your venue and set the date!! it’s going to go by so fast, so enjoy it!

Welcome to the community and congrats on your engagement!!!

I'd start by viewing the tools on this website : Budget and Checklist. Those tools will give you an idea of what to tackle and how you can spread them out between now and your big day!

If you haven't already, I'd sit down with your FH and discuss your budget, wants and likes. Once you've figured out what is important for both of you, then I'd start contacting venues.

Booking the venue definitely feels good and sorta takes some weight off your shoulders, because everything else will be easier to figure out Smiley smile

    Happy Planning!!!

The first thing is to select your venue for sure!
