If we don't hire a Dj, what do we need to consider?

Stephanie, on December 4, 2017 at 17:31 Posted in Wedding reception 0 5

We have talked about not hiring a DJ to save money and just downloading songs and playing them; we would have a couple people take turns to make sure everything plays and to switch songs if it's a dud. We do have an MC for the reception as well. What considerations are we missing? For example, a friend said their DJ had a wireless mic (we are checking with our venue in regards to their sound system). What else does a DJ bring to the table that we would have to replace or find someone to replace? Is it really worth the thousand + dollars?

Any thoughts, advice, suggestions, pros/cons, dos/don'ts etc would be greatly appreciated!

I had hired a DJ and was worth the cost and certified. There wasn't a thing to worry about. If not a DJ, consider a play list as the suggestion given to cut the cost.

I would just say to make sure there is someone who's job it is to keep an eye on music so you and your fiance aren't constantly running to check on it or take care of it - there's a pretty high demand for your time that day as it is.

We didn't have a DJ and just had a playlist on our laptop and it worked out really well! We edited it to make sure the flow would work and set everything up in order and separate playlists. We asked someone to take care of playing the music for the ceremony as our officiant was also our MC. Our MC was able to play the music for the parent dance and the first dance and then the start of the party.

My DJ only costs $400 so maybe look into different DJs. I find DJs interact with the crowd and keep things moving and definitely keep people more hyped in the moment. I'd just be worried about music not playing on time for your garter toss, entrance, etc. That's just my opinion though 😊
