Ideas for After Ceremony with Restrictions

Mike, on June 8, 2021 at 23:28 Posted in Plan a wedding 0 8

Hi,

I live in a city where we have few restrictions. Currently, we are allowed up to 50 people. The wedding is on a hot sunny day (according to the forecast) at 1 PM. We do NOT have any reception. Our idea was to get married at 1 PM, then stay with the guest until 3 PM. Afterwards, we will go take a photoshoot with the bridal group.

The plan:

Marriage 1 - 2 PM

Staying with Guests 2 - 3 PM

Pictures 3 - 5 PM

Normally, at 5 PM we would have a reception (original plan).

Should we get a catering service between 2 - 3 PM? Do you think people will be hungry? Any ideas what we can do?

Thank you

Your circumstances may be limited if some companies are not allowing certain things to take place after your ceremony. Some ideas can be prepacked meals and drinks/pop cans for guests to help themselves. If cake is not feasible to serve, cupcakes are an alternative wrapped in plastic or in a box with a Thank you sticker of your names and date. Some thoughts to share to make the day as special and still feeding your guests.

The rules are not very clear, some reception halls apparently accept 100 people interior. Though, the current rule state that it cannot be more than 25 people and by Mid June it will be up to 50 people. So the fact some places are illegally accepting 100 makes me question the rules.

This shows the situation currently, my city is going to be green zone by July 24th.

We do not have an original plan, and that is the problem. We wanted to have a sweet table and do cake cutting. Though, many companies told us that they are not offering services like that due to short staff or other weird reasons. Also, some companies said they don't deliver/set up so we are not sure how to set up.

I do like the ice cream idea, but again... where do I find these in the little time I have!

Definitely willing to do something, even finger foods and for sure drinks (no alcohol since we are still at Church property)

What are the rules re receptions/social gatherings? Even though you aren’t calling it a reception, that’s technically what the hour after your ceremony would be and you’ll have to follow those rules.
If you’re allowed to have it I would definitely have something for the guests to eat and drink. Otherwise just standing around will probably be awkward and people won’t understand why they’re waiting there.

    Thank you so much Mike.
    Oh yes, totally understandable.

Owweeeee, you heard of a food truck? This is a cool idea when I went to a wedding in two years, was a pretty cool idea.
Or you can have a little cocktail party after your ceremony with food and juice or such.
Let us know what you decide.

Will you have a tent? Or some form of shade? I think that would be more appreciated even then food would be. I guess it depends more on how accessible bringing food and drinks to your ceremony spot would be as well. If food and drinks are allowed I would go for it. I've also seen ice cream carts that you can rent for weddings. Would that be something that would work?

Do the current restrictions in Quebec allow you to serve food to 50 people outdoors? In many provinces, there are differences on attendance levels between a religious ceremony service, and any other gathering.

What was your original plan during 2-3pm if you weren't having food. Why couldn't you go straight into picture taking instead of waiting around for an hour doing nothing?

Are you expecting guests to just wait around to be called for pictures during the 2 hours of photo taking? That's a long time to just be standing/sitting around doing nothing but wait.

Also, it is WAY too early to accurately predict the weather.

    Hi Smiley smile
    Thank you
    You’re very nice
I don’t really have a budget since it’s only 50 people! I don’t want to spend 150$/person not because of the money though we are missing a lot of family members and friend
We just want to satisfy their tummy with a unique and elegant way

    Hello Mike,
    Congratulations 🥳 on your wedding!

I would say that it would be nice to have some finger foods or snack for your guests. Maybe you can also just do a small buffet style after the ceremony!
If you don’t mind me asking… what would your budget be in regard to food option?
