How to send save the dates and wedding invites in 2021

Reem, on October 28, 2020 at 01:03 Posted in Plan a wedding 0 5

As we all know, COVID19 has made wedding planning increasingly more difficult. My fiance and I are looking to have an approximate guest count of 120 people but since we're not sure if covid restrictions will still be up by October 2021, we're not really sure how to go about sending save the dates and wedding invitations. Does anyone have any advice?

Save the date can be sent given the notice of date unknown due to Covid situation and will be notified when finalized. You plan to continue with your original date in the restrictions number with family and friends. Reception celebrations can wait for a later date to have your full guest list present. In the tough times, its what we have to work to make things happen for the best to have back up plans when things clear up.

I totally feel your pain lol. We decided to send save the dates with a note informing that guest numbers may be subject to government restrictions (as we have a great deal of out of town guests). Invites will be 2-3mo before the wedding. It’s still terrifying and uncertain but we are hoping for the best.

We are also getting married October 2021! We are skipping the save the dates - we just told our immedate familes + wedding party our date. Some of our wedding party are coming in from BC (we live in Alberta) so we just told them ahead of time. We also told them that the wedding will go ahead as planned whatever restriction may be in place. As for the invitations, we are not sending them out until 2 months before our date. We originally had 80 people on our guest list and had to cut down to 40ish which is not bad. These 40ish people will get paper invitations, and if restrictions do ease up by next year and we can invite more people, the rest of the guests will get an evite instead.

For save the dates maybe send to all. But include a note or something saying that depending on covid restrictions you may have to limit guest list at future date. For invitations maybe have an a list and b list

Are you expecting people to travel far to your wedding? If not, a save the date is not necessary and by not sending one, you can avoid the awkward situation of having to rescind an invite if you have to scale down due to government rules.

October is a sticky time when it comes to invites because you'll need to send them out around 2-3 months in advance to gather everyone's preferences, but that means you're in the tail-end of summer when cases might still be low and most businesses are open. You really can't predict how the fall will play out. Your wedding is right before Thanksgiving and it was around the same time this year that the province sent all residential gatherings to a max of 10 people inside and closed all dine-in operations in major hubs. Being in London, you might be able to avoid the indoor dining closures but it's doubtful we can go beyond a 50 guest count. I highly suggest creating a tier system with your guest list so you can send them out in waves pending what government restrictions are in place.
