How to properly store a wedding dress?

Hi everyone, I am wondering how you are storing your wedding dress while waiting for your wedding. I picked mine up yesterday and was told it needs to be in a dark place like a closet without any pets or food scents around. When googling how to store a wedding dress it had a much longer list of things to do and now I think I'm overthinking things. I basically have 2 options, keep my dress (in its breathable bag) in the upstairs warm dry closet, or in the basement where its cooler and maybe just a weee but damp but not really. My dress will be stored for about 6 months, before I take it back for alterations. I don't want to store it at the store as they charge a lot to keep it there. Any help would be appreciated, thank you!

    I wouldnt store in anywhere with moisture. mine has been in a bag in my closet since november and its completely fine. i think people over think it.

    Mine is stored in my closet in the breathable bag it came in. I would put it somewhere hot before I put it somewhere damp.

    Mine is in our spare room closet where the cats can't get near it.


    I've kept it in the breathable bag that the store sent it home in.

    I'm keeping my dress in it's bag that the bridal store has given me and it's being stored at my parents place in a closet. The dress has been in the bag for a year now and it's fine! It's going to be in the bag for another 11 months before I have to get it altered.

    I stored mine in an upstairs closet for a year now. It’s been completely fine in the bag by itself. As long as it’s safe and dry and away form anything that can wreck it, you’ll be all ready for your day six months from now.
