How pertinent do you think a Head Table Backdrop is for my venue?

Janice, on September 14, 2021 at 10:37 Posted in Plan a wedding 0 12

Hi all!

The venue we decided on, the room is all white with hardwood flooring. If you look at the picture, all the walls are white but the purple/white backdrop will NOT be provided. How pertinent would you all say having a backdrop would be? Like if I had more decor on the table would that help? Or on the sides of the table? We are looking at the colors of sage, grey, mint greens for our wedding. The difficulty here is a backdrop of that size costs $2000+ to rent and I'm having a hard time justifying and budgeting for that! But at the same time, I suppose it would look rather plain without one? Does anyone have any suggestions or creative ideas/ DIY's? Or even if you could give me an opinion like "you definitely need a backdrop" or not! Smiley smile Thank you!

    Hello Janice 👋🏾

    Beautiful venue you have there.
I would recommend a DIY backdrop using PVC pipe and curtains.

I will say, you don't a backdrop to reach the ceiling, nor does it need to expand the whole length of the table. You just need something, anything really, to break up that bare blank white wall.

Oh I love the idea of tall flower vases and repurposing the arch. I think now that is definitely going to be an option I will be considering. I do need to look around a bit more, some of the backdrops I found that I like started at the 1000 but then depending on the length and height the price went up. I wonder if those shows are still running now during Covid. I will have to look into that. Thanks so much for your suggestions!!!

$2000 usually covers more than just the backdrop. Based on my dealings with all the promos seen at wedding shows as well as other open houses, that price would get your the full backdrop, the whole table setup, the cake table, and the sign in table. So definitely shop around. I found a ton of backdrops of similar quality to your photo in York Region for around $1000 including labour.

Are you having the ceremony at the venue? What kind of arch are you using? Often times a fairly lightweight arch can be repurposed for the head table. If not an arch, sometimes people use tall flower vases on pedestals that bookend them. Those are lightweight and portable, without requiring additional labour from the decorator.

Smiley surprise Holy. Why haven't I thought of that. That sounds like a great option Smiley surprise that way you don't have to rent two! That sounds awesome, I think I will rent a wedding arch that will look ok as a table backdrop and then do my table to suit as well. Thank you!

An other thing people do - is to use the arch they had at the ceremony as the back drop (if it is portable). I was going to do this before I switched to destination wedding to save on costs. If you are renting the arch - you have the rental for the whole day, may as well make use of it! If you are making the arch yourself, even better! You don't have to spend on more flowers for the back drop and drapery, because its already there from your ceremony.

You're welcome 🙂 if you have any room in your budget for decor and feel the need for some help, then I'd highly recommend the decorator that we hired. She was absolutely amazing and I loved working with her and her prices were extremely good for all that she did. Her name is Jennifer and her company is called Tufts & Toile if you'd like to reach out to her.

If the wall behind that backdrop matches the other white walls in the rest of the venue, I would say go for it blank. It is a really nice wall and I think having a really cool head table will work!

Thank you! It must be my area Smiley sad all the rentals are so expensive here, can't seem to find anything reasonable at all. I think you're right! It's just wall, so I can definitely do something on the front or side of the table!!!!

There's lots of backdrops that you can rent off of Facebook Marketplace for closer to $100. My style is also very minimalist, so I personally wouldn't worry too much as long as whatever's behind that backdrop in the picture is just wall. But I'd still want something to set the table apart, so something either on the table, on the sides, or even in front would work too.
