How much to pay family member ceremony musician?

Rhiannon, on August 13, 2018 at 09:41 Posted in Wedding ceremony 0 5

Hey ladies!
For my ceremony, I've asked my cousin to play some piano music for about 15 minutes before the service (just said she could play any nice piano music she already knows and is comfortable with) and then 3 short songs for when we're all walking in (children, bridesmaids, bride). I tried to pick songs that were pretty easy to learn/not too complicated.

That's all the playing that she'll be doing.
How much should I pay her? I was thinking maybe $80?

Then her sister (also my cousin) said she could play along with one of the songs on violin, which would probably be about 30 seconds of playing (just bride walking in)
How much should I pay her? Maybe $20? It's such a short song and really simple and as a violin player myself I know it's not too much prep time.

Anyone have wisdom to share???? Thanks!

$100 sounds fair and what she is giving to your day on your request.

$100 sounds really reasonable, plus a lovely thank-you note!

I would recommend $100. For the other sister, $25. That way, it's about $25 per set (although I'm counting the 15 minute prelude as a set, which is a lot longer than the other songs).

I think $100 even sounds nicer than $80, unless there's some sort of reasoning behind that number specifically!

$20 is okay for her sister considering she'll be playing for less than a minute. The only other thing I can think of is a gift card in place of $20.
