How much is your dj costing?

Sonja, on August 20, 2017 at 18:11 Posted in Plan a wedding 0 39

Just wondering what couples are paying for their DJ. I've been researching and found one with 10 years experience, references, and a light show on the dance floor for $240.00 for 3 hours.

I paid $995 for 12 hours and my dj was phenomenal with the wedding and reception songs.

Hi Kristina, I will be checking references before I commit. You're right about asking if he has back up for any reason. Most likely, there will be a contract that outlines the details. Now, I wasn't made aware of any set up fee from the venue. We are only having 30 guests at our wedding so I wouldn't have hired a DJ for nearly $1900. I just wanted a few hours so that if anyone wanted to dance, they could. What's a wedding without music?

Don't skimp on your DJ. Your guests will remember the food and music. DJ's can be anywhere from $500-$5,000. We booked a DJ, that our venue suggested and it's 7 hours of music, including MC, and you get to choose your music online. They also pick a DJ that matches your personalities. We are paying $1895, but well worth it. The reviews are great with these guys. Whoever you pick always ask if they have a back up if the equipment fails or DJ is sick, and ask about any additional costs. Most venues you have to pay an extra set up fee depending on your guests.

I think venues must get a percentage if the client chooses the in house vendors.

Hi Jen, the prices vary so much from province to province. It pays to shop around. I think yours is a pretty good price for the amount of time.

They very well could be, I think this is about average for where I am. To be honest I didn't look around that much here, they were recommended by my venue as this is the company that usually does wedding a there. I thought the price was pretty decent to be honest haha

Hi Lyz, I have a classical guitarist and singer for my ceremony and the guitarist will play during the cocktail hour. This came to $550 so I wanted to find a deal for the reception. Yours is quite pricey. Are the prices higher where you are?

We are paying just over 1100$ for 5 continuous hours of music at the reception (supper til end of night), lights, as well as ceremony music.

Hi Kila, I must have emailed 10 DJ's to get quotes and they varied tremendously. Give yourself time to make a decision.

You got that right. Especially when you plan on paying for everything by yourself.

Hi Vanessa, you are very fortunate, indeed. We don't have that kind of expertise. You're right, the money can be used elsewhere. We have to save where we can, right?

On this note we are lucky! My FH has professional speakers and we have all the equipment to do this on our own!! Smiley smile We will have a friend to manage our play lists for us but we will put it together all the lists. We can get the basic lighting. I use to do a few dj gigs and he did as well for fundraisers so the dj will maybe cost us a dinner and some drinks and something for his time. We already have the program to do it as well. This money can be allotted somewhere else. Smiley heart Some dj's charge over 1.00 for mileage and when you live 120 km it's just not happening.

I found this one on Kijiji. I just emailed all the DJ's asking for a quote for 3 hours. He was the 2nd cheapest and included lights. It pays to shop around.

Yes, Carol. Some people in this discussion have paid really high prices for their DJs. You're lucky it was included.
