How much did you spend on photography?

You can find a fantastic photographer where you don’t have to pay $**** for.

We hired our guy for $1700 and this includes 10 hours of photography. He also only charged us $250 for our engagement photos.

If you want to keep the cost down, I recommend looking for somebody who has only been in the wedding photography business for a short time. Maybe they’ve done a few weddings but they haven’t been around for 10 years. The people who have been around time charge more because they can. Look for somebody newer. Just because they are new doesn’t mean theylll be less good.

I am on a tight budget ($15,000), also trying to save for a new home, so a high-cost photographer is out of the question for me. Look for photographers and photo artists with packages or deals! I found a photoartist through a family friend. She had recently done wedding photos and newborn photos for my family friend and this friend shared a promotion they were having for friends and family of previous clients. I ended up getting a great deal! I ended up going with 6 hours of coverage and it cost me less than $1000! All the other quotes I received from photographers were over $2000 for less time. So I was really happy that I didn't jump on some of the earlier photographers I had spoken with, the quality of photo and cost of the package with my current photographer could not be beaten!

Keep looking I'm sure you will find something!

Depends where you are, I’m in Ontario and my photographer is $2700 for 12 hours, 2 photographers. It’s possible to find good photographers within your budget. We haven’t booked a videographer yet, still looking

Our photographer is around $3,400 for 8 hours plus engagement shoot. I'd say that[s a pretty standard price for an experienced wedding photographer.

We would have loved to hire a videographer, but it really wasn't in our budget, which is 20K like yours.

Maybe look into some less experienced photographers and videographers? Their prices will be lower than the more experienced ones, but that doesn't mean that their work won't be good. You might find some real gems!

Is there a local wedding facebook group? Doesn't hurt to post and say you're looking for videophaphers within THIS budget and see what pops up.

In my opinion, photos are so much more important to me than some fancy posh meal or what ever. Id rather have photos to look back on in x years then look back and think that I spent too much money on appies.

Browse for a photographer that you vibe with and has a style you like. At the end of the day, you're going to marry your best friend and you're going to one day look back at these photos to remember your special day. Prioritize photos in my opinion!

I found most rates for Alberta were between $3,000-$5,000. I managed to find someone for $3,300. I had a couple of girls who were just under that line but one had almost zero experience shooting weddings. I would stick to the 3K mark. You still want good quality photos in the long run.

We spent about $2k on ours- this included 9 hours and an album after. She was reasonably priced in our area and amazing style of photography. Is that the going rate where you are? Photography is only memory you have after that day. One thing to consider are you going to watch the videos again after that day very often?

We are spending almost $7000 for both photography and videography which is actually less than what most people in Toronto spend for both! That includes coverage for the entire day, two shooters for photography, two shooters for videography, all raw photos, all edited photos, two types of edited videos, & footage of all speeches.

    Hi Jenni:

We are spending $1850 - which includes 2 photographers for 8 hours on the day of our wedding, plus an engagement shoot. From what I have seen, a lot of photography packages start at over $2K. All I can suggest is shopping around. I found my photographer through a friend at work who was getting married this summer (mine is next summer). I also recommend keeping an eye on the pesky Facebook ads - if you are looking up wedding photographers in your area, you start to see ads pop up (or at least I did), and there are some nice choices.

Some photographers will give you a bit of a price break if you book well in advance. Hope that helps you out!

We found a local photographer and sat down to design a custom package. We cut back on the number of hours (I think we ended up with 5 instead of 10-12) and got 300 photos for $1000. The photos were beautiful and it includes photos of both men and women getting ready, the first look, ceremony, family and bridal party photos after, and we snuck away for some beautiful photos of just the two of us for about an hour. Our wedding budget was only 7k and we came in under budget around 6. I think you should sit down and see if you can create a custom package (photo lists are a big help) because you you really want to pay someone a few hundred an hour to stand at your reception to wait for the first dance and cake cutting? But it's what parts of the day are the most important that you want to capture.

Our max budget for our wedding is roughly $9,000. Photography is costing us $750. So far I think we are going to come in way under budget at maybe $6000.

We’ve booked our Photographer for $1800 for 8 hours + the engagement shoot. He’s a pretty awesome guy and his work is really good. He lives in Pitt Meadows so by all means shoot me a PM if you’d like his details! We had our engagement shoot and it was super relaxed and easy. We ended up with some awesome pics!

    Thanks everyone.
So far, my photography is quoted at $4300. I really like the photographer’s style and everything. Just couldn’t justify spending that much on photography. I was hoping it to be under $4k😢😢

Our budget is 20k as well, perhaps if we exceed the max will be 25. Our photographer and videographer both are 5k in total. We just didnt go for the super popular ones featured in magazines etc. We did lots of research (for reviews) and stalking in FB and Insta and met them in person to help us make our decision. And our videographer is also recommended by our venue. The photographer gave us a good discount because we found him in WW Smiley smile

My overall budget is $20,000 - $25,000 and although we are having a friend do our pictures and therefore paying less than what a professional would cost - all the quotes we got prior to offering were roughly $2,500 - $4,000

I would say to try and get a combo (somebody who provides photography and videography) and then max out on $5,000? You can always try and get them to bring the price down by only asking for the ceremony to be filmed Smiley smile

We are spending around $4000, which includes 8 hours of coverage, engagement, 400+ photos, print/canvas credit. I had to "fight" for our photographer with my fiance at the start. He was a bit naive in his thoughts around photography and assumed we could just have someone with an iphone pointing and clicking and it would amount to the same quality as our current photographer. That was our first little disagreement about the wedding! But I held my ground and asked him to do research first regarding what a professional photographer provides and does before assuming a family member with an iphone can do the same. Once he did that, he felt a bit better and now that we have our engagement photos done, he is totally on board! The price tag hurts a bit but I know its worth it and we will love our photos forever.

Photography is one of those vendors where they will charge higher or reasonable depending on the area. BC and Alberta seem to be on the higher side.

Based on the photographers package deal for what is being offered and pricing, you can choose though alter what can be done if something you don't need can be removed to include something else or lowered in price. Inquiring with the vendor personally helps to know if they will work towards your budget too.

When it comes to photographers, you want the best to document your day.
Ours is $1800 for 8 hours and then we are adding an extra hour. This included an engagement session and 2 photographers for our wedding.
If I didn’t get a wicked deal with our photographer we would be budgeting about 3k for a photographer.

I am definitely in the same came as you and the previous posters. It's something me and my FH agreed would be our splurge category because we will be looking at these photos for years and years. We didn't want videography as we both figured we'd never watch it.

Our budget is about $19,000 (but we are hoping to come in under that). The photography, taxes in, is going to be $4,300. We got a good amount with this though...2 photographers for 10 hours, engagement photos, and a photo booth that is going to have the backdrops provided. We are getting guaranteed 200 photos with touch-ups as well, no watermarks.

Amanda made a good point. There were photographers I looked at that had 1 shooter for 8 hours at $5000. Shop around and compare.

Photography is our top priority so we splurged there and got one for $3500 +HST, which includes an engagement shoot, 2 photographers for 8hrs of coverage, all the proofs, a few prints, and an album. We hadn't initially planned on doing videography but changed our minds and found one for a fairly good price - $1850 +HST for 2 videographers for 8hrs of coverage, a 10 minute highlight video, and the edited ceremony and speeches.

It is a crazy amount of money but I wouldn't want to cut costs there and end up with photos you're not happy with. If you're not super picky about a videographer though, lots of vendors post on wedding buy and sells on FB with last minute dates and offer a really good deal so they can fill their calendars.

We are spending $7,000. Our price includes our engagement photos and the wedding with all day coverage and two photographers.

videography is also expensive! Everyone quoted us at least $3,000 just for video. We ended up using my sisters friend who she met in a broadcasting and video course. So they’re newish guys but they gave us a phenomenal price and they’ve been in the industry for a few years already.

My advice is always spend a bit more of your budget if you can on photography. These are the photos you’ll have forever.

videography isn’t as important but if you can do it then that’s great! We saw some packages that included both photo and video but they were out of our range so we didn’t use the same
    company for both.

    definitely shop around!

I spent $2500 and got a lot in my package. A canvass, thank you cards, engagement shoot and a photobook. I just got my USB and there is over 400 pictures on it. Our photographer is a bit newer so I think that's why the price was so good, but the pictures are unbelievable.

I would just keep an open mind and look at portfolio's. You get what you pay for but some of them are very expensive and don't include anything other than the digitals and to me that's just not worth it.

That is about average prices for a good photographer in the area. Our budget is around $14,000. We spend just over $3000 on our photographer. It is not worth it to get a cheaper photographer to save money, because you’ll likely end up with pictures you don’t like.
