How long is your venue giving you to postpone?

Niki, on May 2, 2020 at 14:04 Posted in Plan a wedding 0 6

Hello everyone.

My Fiance and I's wedding is this year in November. We are considering postponing for a number of reasons. 1. In the event of a second wave in the fall as they are predicting. 2. There is no way we can get our bridal party fitted for their attire + other little things we need we cannot get. 3. Incase of low capacity numbers directed by government (we are expecting minimum 200 people) 4. We do not want our guests to feel uncomfortable and want to hug, kiss and embrace our family on this special day.

I am wondering what your venue is saying to you in regards to postponing. Our venue is only letting us postpone within 2 months of our wedding. This does not work with us as we need to purchase and send out our invitations way before that! We don't want to lose this money incase we need to postpone. 2 months is no where near enough time. Have any of your venues given you a maximum time of which you can postpone your wedding?

Any help would be great!

November seems good so far without any concerns unless the venue does give any notice 1-2 months before your day. Invitations created and ordered, though not sent can be covered with the new date. The printing company you bought the invitations allows you to be credited for the current order and put a new date for the new batch is excellent service.
The venue isn't being as flexible as much as it can be for choosing the date you want. Its limiting to their comvenience.

I feel like november is far enough away i think we will be fine. the vaccine is already at human trials so i think you should be ok. my girls ordered their outfits online and dont need alternations. the guys suits can be done a month or 2 before the wedding and you can always sent out email invitations

If the cost of invitations are the only financial concern, then maybe go paperless to save? That way if you have to postpone due to government mandate, you can just update the evite and won't lose the cost of your venue deposit.

Our venue is operating like yours. Wont find out until June about our August wedding. November is really quite far away and i think it makes sense that you have to wait. Or that you would have to pay fees to change it now. We sent our invites with a note that we will contact them if anything changes in June.

Our venue is allowing any couple to put a soft hold on a future date. Basically, you can keep your current date and wait and see and also hold a future date for no extra charge.

However, if another couple comes and wants to hold your day - you have to decide if you want to stick with your current day or move to the future date you’ve put a hold on.
We’re choosing to wait and see. We hope july happens and everything is the “new normal”. Once our venue tells us we can’t have it - we may try to postpone if there’s dates available but right now there’s nothing next year.

Hi! Our venue allowed us to make the call to postpone more than 5 months in advance - basically as soon as we inquired about doing so. As did most of my vendors. One vendor is enforcing a “wait and see” policy. Like your venue, she won’t entertain the idea of a postponement until we’re 60 days out.

Good luck! I hope your venue relaxes their stance! I agree that 2 months is too tight of a window.
