How far in advance are you sending invites?

Sadia, on January 7, 2020 at 20:08 Posted in Plan a wedding 0 20
We’re getting married July 10, we finally got our invites a few weeks ago and I’m wondering how far in advance you usually send them out? Is 5 months too soon!?

We sent our out in June (4 months before) so I don't think 5 is a stretch, especially if you didn't send out save the dates. Just be aware that there's more time for guests to misplace/forget about the invitation until your RSVP deadline when you are calling them.

Date twins!! Yay! We're sending ours the beginning of March likely the first or second week. We have a lot of people travelling in from Ontario, our wedding is in Saskatchewan, so I want to give them a lot of time to plan.

I totally agree! We've known our date for a while - October, 10 2020, and have had our invites designed since before Christmas. We're planning to send ours at the beginning of March. I don't care if it's too early - we're excited to get the details out to people!

I'm planning to have mine sent out by March at the latest. We skipped doing a save the date and we already have an invitation design picked out for a while now so why not?

My FH keeps asking when we're going to send them out and keeps telling people that they're invited and what the date is in person. Now that it's finally the same calendar year as our wedding I don't think it's too early at all

Lol i am getting married in April. My invites went out in September and the RSVP date is January 25 (3 months before the wedding) We did it this way as many of our guests have a very long distance to travel and wanted to give them a chance to respond and plan. Also we have a small venue and had a lot of invites we felt we HAD to send out but expecting rejections. This way i have the RSVP's and we can invite more people after that date to fill the no's and they can still get under our wedding block which closes 2 months before the wedding.

Almost date twins! I'm July 11. I sent out STDs in a few waves throughout October and November. I'd like to send the invitations in March or April so I'll order them in a month or so to give time for processing, shipping, and hand addressing.

Out of province ones could be sent any time now imo - as for the rest I would say that it's best to send them out where it will give them roughly 2 months to "think" about it. At that point I would also say you could just wait till Easter and hand them out (if you celebrate Easter - that way you save on postage).

5 months isn't too soon though, I had 2 waves of invitations so I sent the first round out at the 5 month mark Smiley smile

Overseas guests would be good to send 4 months before and local/Canada wide 3 months so that they have more than enough time to make their arrangements and to reply back knowing they have the day and tickets taken care for the family/couple.

If you can, maybe reach out to the overseas family that would need visas and find out when they need the save the dates/invites by. That might help you with a timeline too Smiley smile

That’s great! Maybe I’ll send out my overseas invites first since a few of them need visas and I’ll hand the rest out in March!

We're getting married end of October, we're sending save the dates to family overseas this week (even though they're already well aware) and everyone else will receive between now and march break. As for invites, again the family overseas will receive probably in or april so they have time to receive and respond, everyone else will receive sometime in July or August I think

We are getting married on the same date! Personally, I think the standard 6-8 weeks is cutting it too short, especially for a summer wedding. My work schedule is created months in advance, so I think that most people would appreciate having more notice.

I'll be sending my email save the date out and asking for addresses on Friday (6 months notice), and the invites will go out sometime between mid-February and March. I've set my RSVP date for May 5th (8 weeks before our final numbers are due) so that we have time to send out additional invitations if numbers allow it.

If you address a couple or few per day (depending on how big your guestlist is) for a month, it'll be time to send them out before you know it Smiley smile

We're sending ours out about 5 months in advance too - I think 4-5 months is pretty standard. We're just leaving a little extra time for a potential second wave.
