How do i decide on a wedding planner?

Amie, on September 2, 2018 at 03:21 Posted in Plan a wedding 0 7
Hey everyone,

My FH and I are getting married next August. We’ve chosen the venue and caters. I’m looking for help with budget allocation and management, style execution and coordination help from my future planner.

For the past week and a half I’ve been speaking with numerous wedding planners over the phone (nearly a dozen planners in total! The list kept growing.)

Anyways, it’s down to three planners now. They are all relatively close in budget (2,000 for planner A&B and planner C is 1785).

I can’t decide or figure out how to make this important decision. Anyone have any tips?

Planner A is $2000, eager to please, soft-spoken, young, thorough but she isn’t doing planning FT and had another FT job (that could be viewed as a positive though because she takes on less events and will focus her energy on my wedding). She started her company a year ago, will offer monthly meetings until my wedding, and she did research about my needs before our consult. She messaged me as a follow up and seems extremely eager to please.

Planner B owns 3 companies (1 wedding planning) and is an interior designer. She is the cheapest and seems to have a lot of contacts at her fingertips (they all do but she seemed more connected). She’s hands on and will do a walk through of venue complimentary. She is a type A and organized.

Planner C is $2000, offers only 4 face to face meetings but I felt like I connected with her. She’s organized and detail oriented. She seemed to understand my vision. She offers the least amount of meetings face to face but she does offer unlimited communication via email or phone.

How did you pick your wedding planner? Any tips or advice on how to make my decision?

I am torn. I almost feel like I should talk to the other two planners (A&B) because it’s been almost a week since we last spoke. That being said, I’m not sure if I have any more questions to ask. I feel a conversation with each of them would help me evaluate who is the best fit.

Is it silly to contact them again? What would I say? Any ideas on what to ask and certain points to bring up?

Or should I bite the bullet and call again to touch base, explaining my situation (torn between wedding planners) and see what ideas they have to execute my vision and stay in budget?

I would love feedback, thoughts, advice - anything and everything!

Thanks in advance (sorry for the long post & congrats if you made it this far)

Just based off of what you know about them, I would pick Planner B. Contacts are a HUGE part of wedding planner benefits. If she seems connected to people, thats a huge plus.

    Hi everyone!

Firstly, thank you to everyone for all the tips and wonderful advice. I’ve decided to contact all three potential planners and meet in person. Thus far I’ve only spoken to them over the phone so I’m hoping once I sit down with each of them, it will be more obvious who’s the right fit. I’ll keep everyone updated!

Before making any decisions, I’d verify their credentials, comb through their reviews and portfolio of past events!!

BTW - just saw that you’re in Vancouver. We interviewed a few planners in Vancouver but decided to get married in Victoria instead. If we’d opted for Vancouver we would have gone with Christie at Umbrella Events.

    I would go with B.

After having conversations with about 6 or so planners (found on WW), my FH and I met with them each face to face to have a conversation. We wanted to see if we vibed with them and if they understood our vision...and this gave my FH to get involved and ask them questions too.

During our meeting with the person we chose she mentioned that since she was a designer her full price included design services.

When we left the meeting my FH turned to me and said yes, we’ve found our planner. He’s more frugal than I am so for him to be so impressed that he opted for her full service planning not partial really said something.

Our planner seems a lot like your B, so that’s who I was say to go with. But trust your gut.
Also check their social media accounts.

There’s one planner who we really loved but didn’t think she had enough experience. We follow her online and are regularly disappointed by what she posts. Soooo glad we went with our gut and chose the person we connected with most.

Do any of them have reviews you can look at, or a portfolio to go over? Might help to see if there’s previous experience that is in line with the vibes you are getting from them?

Personally I would go with planner B.

You aren't looking for a best friend (planner C) and you need someone to step in and make things happen which may not work with someone soft spoken (planner A). Plus she is an interior designer so you would assume she knows a thing or two about decor and will have ideas for your wedding.
