My FH and I are paying for our wedding , we are just slowly paying for everything as we go.. we secured all our major items with deposits and now just slowly making payments towards everything .. we are still up in the air about having a buck and doe we may just do raffel tickets as this has become a big hit lately and people have been making some decent money off them without having to throw a big event,,, so we will see what happens

My FH and I are paying our selves. As far as tips, budgeting is important!!!!
In addition, we are selecting family friends who are vendors, and many are not requiring a deposit, which is very helpful! If I'm going to be spending thousands I would rather put it in the hands of people I know!

We are trying hard to save as we go and not use the Line of Credit because the interest incurred would essentially come out of our budget. Trying really really hard.
Research is key as well. I wouldn't just call one vendor and book. I'm always working to get the best value for our dollar!

We are putting most things on credit and paying off as we go, i love the idea of using a points card and using the points to pay for the honeymooon, i have already gotten an adventura vias after reaserching they are great to travel with. Our families will help us out a bit but closer to the actual day.

It includes both the bride and groom. Usually you rent out a hall or can use a restaurant or wherever! You have games for people to play such as toonie toss and raffle prizes for people to bid on. You charge a certain amount per ticket - $10 is the perfect amount for a ticket and this way if people aren't able to make it out to the jack and jill, they can still support you by buying a ticket. Any money raised during the night goes towards the bride and groom for the wedding.... You also generally serve alcohol and some sort of food for everyone and depending where you have the event you can make money off of the alcohol to. There is usually music and everyone just has a good time! My one bridesmaid raised $**** for her wedding and another bridesmaid helped her bf's sister when she got married and raised them $4500. You have to be willing to put money into the event in order to raise money but even just having your wedding party sell 10 tickets each can make you about $1000 if you have a large wedding party!

That's great! What's a Jack and Jill? I've seen it referenced a few times but had never heard of it before.

We are using a line of credit and cash as we go. My parents have pleged an amount to help us, and are contributing as we go, but I am not relying on that, as things can always fall through.

Anyone just starting out my suggestion is to be realistic...it is easy to get carried away and spend too much...and it can get very frustrating when things you want are out of your budget. Remember the "extras" are not what will make your day special...your new spouse will be the most important part!

Be realistic about what you can afford on your budget...maybe you want 200 guests, but can only afford 100. It is far better to cut your list and have a nice wedding that doesn't blow your budget, than have a lot of people attend who are not well taken care of and enjoying themselves because the budget fell short (my opionion I suppose). We all want a "dream wedding", but I know that most people- myself included- cannot afford a lavish wedding without taking on unrealistic debt. Consider how your next 5 years will look if you spend more than you should.....build a future with your spouse, don't build debt that will stress and strain your relationship!

My FH and myself are paying for it with money from our savings... My parents are hosting the rehearsal and we have requested any family members or friends with skills to do us favors instead of getting us a gift... So far we have our wedding cupcakes and cutting cake covered, our photos, our DJ, our hair... I think that my BIL will be doing the ceremony music, I told him he didn't have to since my cousin backed out, but my sister says he is trying stuff out on his violin and seems into it.

We saved up and used that money for deposits for the vendors. We have slowly paid off certain items such as my dress and the rings and now we continue to put money away to pay off as much as we can and then whatever we can't pay off we will then use our line of credit or a credit card and pay the remainder off. We are having a jack and jill to raise money and that money will be used towards our honeymoon or to pay off the remainder of the wedding (depending how much we get paid off).... we also have 2 family members blessing us with money for the honeymoon! However we have been paying for everything completely on our own! My dad did surprise us with some money and we used that for a deposit as well.
