Hotel Issues

Rere, on January 20, 2022 at 15:35 Posted in Plan a wedding 0 20
Good afternoon everyone,

We are having a bit of hotel issues. Hotels are saying we can't have more then 5 people in the room, I stated that it is our wedding day and we will be have photographers and a videograper in the room plus hair and make-up, she asked me how much I said about 10 or so including bridal party and a few family members. She said that is to many. Has anyone had similar issues? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated, thank you.

The wedding coordinator and the hotel manager would feel you fitting 10 people in a room at once may have a big chance of not getting out if there was a fire. Taking this consideration in mind, break up the numbers in half to do your photoshoot with wedding party and then your family to still the moments happen happily and safely. It wouldn't help getting upset with them and fighting with the management to ruin your chances of your wedding getting cancelled because of the chances they want to avoid.

Find someone else to talk to and if they still say it's an issue tell them you'll do 5 and 5 in shifts. (Doesn't mean you have to do it). Fire marshals most likely won't check especially during a pandemic.
What I did at conferences definitely broke for code, I even brought it up once and the organizer just said we're all adults and smart enough to know what to do in a fire.

You'll be in a huge two floor room.

They said that it is a fire harbor to have more then 7 people max in the room. I'm so annoyed. I made it very clear that these people will not be sleeping over.

Are they maybe worried because of Covid?
Having people over in rooms shouldn't be an issue (as long as they aren't staying in the room). I have been to conferences before where at the end of the night, we went to someone's room to continue the conversation. There was probably 20 of us in a single bed room, we just talked in quiet voices and everyone left when we were done.

Hi Jenn, thank you for letting me know. I called the hotel again just now spoke to a different manager and they said no more then 7 people are aloud so the number went up to 2. Still not good enough, I will just look somewhere. She did however say what you said they would only complain with noise and such, but then turned around and said only 7 people are aloud in the room at a time. It's crazy because that is the 2nd biggest suite they have it even has 2 floors.

    Hi Rere,

I used to work in hospitality, for a big international hotel chain, and unless you are over capacity for people staying the night (or get a noise complaint) you are not breaking any rules, and won't have an issue with security. As others have pointed out, it may be that the individual you spoke with misunderstood and thinks you meant you had planned on having 10 ppl sleep in the suite and not just get ready.

As you said, you spoke to the manager, and they have said it is ok - odds are because they understood you mean that there will be 10 ppl DURING THE DAY and not sleeping in the suite. As Hank said, if you are that worried about issues day of, ask the manager to put a note in the reservation (they have complete ability to do so, and can even have it pop up automatically when you check-in) that you will have XYZ in your room as of ___AM as you prepare for your wedding at _________. That note will be assigned to the Manager/GM you spoke to so there will be no issues

I would just get the manager to have it in writing that he's allowing you to have this amount of people while you're getting ready. That way if he or she isn't on site the day of your wedding and someone else is in charge, they will know what is going on.

They might just be assuming your whole bridal party is sleeping over, which wouldn't be allowed.

As long as your manager has it in writing that your arrangement is allowed, you should be fine.

That room is already so pricey I really don't want to have to book another one. It's crazy because we just want to get ready in the room and take get ready photos. My FH booked it for 2 nights because we plan to stay there the night before and after the wedding.

I am booked already, she seen that it was the bi-level suite, we were just calling to ask to see it in advance to make sure it was big enough and then she said it only allows 5 people ans security will give us a hard time. However last week I spoke to the manager and he said all was fine, so now I'm confused because of course we don't want any issues on the day of.

You might want to check out how many max people can be in the suit during a stay. For example, my fiance's birthday is coming up and we're heading to Banff and we have a cabin and it has a loft at a resort but it only allows 6 people.

You might have to get two rooms if they only allow x amount of people

I have a feeling someone on their end was just confused and thought you were trying to book a normal room. Are you getting married at the hotel? Talk to your wedding coordinator at the hotel and he/she should be able to sort it out.

Hi Hank, yes it was there 2nd biggest suite. That's why I'm so confused. It has 2 levels, dinning area and living area plus 2 bathrooms.

You typically need a suite for something like that. It's a fire code violation if they allow that many people in a typical single bed bedroom.
