For us we live over an hour from the nearest large city and we have people coming from out of State possibly out of Continent depending. I hear you, I booked 6 spots for the Saturday I will be calling and booking Friday and Saturday for at least 15 rooms.

Our hotel automatically gives us 30 rooms blocked off, 10 of these are suites and the other 20 are regular rooms. On top of this we requested another 20 rooms because it was recommended to us to guarantee accommodations for at least half the guests/families coming from out of town (which is basically everyone for our wedding). We only did the actual night of the wedding for the hotel block.

We booked a block of rooms at the nearest hotel to our venue for both the Friday and the Saturday. Some people, family and the wedding party, needed to be there on the Friday for the rehearsal dinner so they needed a place to stay. We originally had 10 rooms blocked off and then added more when needed.

We blocked off 10 rooms at 2 different hotels so 20 rooms total for our wedding of 150. However, our wedding is outside of the town we live in and there will be camping available too at the venue. The hotels gave us two options, either we could have paid for all the rooms we wanted and be responsible if some rooms didn’t get filled. Or we could block rooms off for up to 30 days prior to the wedding. We went with the second option!

Our plan is to book rooms at two hotels (my family is cheap tbh and his prefer 4-5 star service). We will probably book 10 rooms at each (or what they suggest) for the Friday and Saturday. From what I understand chatting with them is that any unbooked rooms will re-open a certain length of time before the wedding but the discount will not be affected.

We blocked 20 rooms for our guests as they were mostly coming in from out of town. I'm pretty sure the hotel booked for the weekend. They gave us a discounted price too!

I haven't quite got to it yet as we are waiting for another hotel to open to get a quote. But I called the hotel and she said they would book off 15 rooms for the Friday/Saturday that way we have more than enough. And that if people come in earlier in the week that it is perfectly okay. A month before, they will call us and we will determine whether to "unblock" them or to reserve a couple more. Generally hotels know how many and all those details so I would ask the manager for her/his recommendation.

When i did room block. I looked at how many fron the families and friends will be staying from thursday til saturday. Most venues or hotels reseeve under the couples name for guests to book.

We are going to be doing it the night of the wedding, so the Saturday. Our ceremony won't be till around 3-4 so they have lots of time to drive and get to our venue, and they can either check in before if they can or after the ceremony during the cocktail hour. We are likely doing just one hotel. But just the one night, and getting a shuttle service so no risk of drunk driving.
