Honeymoon location advice

Maja, on September 26, 2019 at 14:48 Posted in Plan a wedding 0 9

Hi ladies! I’m in some desperate need for some advice. Me and my FH are planning on getting married in 2021(I’m an excited and early planner for sure) and we are located in Calgary, Alberta. I found this amazing and affordable venue at a golf course! We can do the ceremony on the course and they set up an event tent (good for 200 people!) and make it look all beautiful with lights and they do everything.

Now, I’ve set my heart on an ‘outdoor’ wedding (especially for pictures) and I love love love this venue. We haven’t set our exact date yet simply because A) my FH doesn’t care when we do it as long as I show up, and B) I’m concerned with the weather! I would hate it if it were too hot, so I’ve canceled out July/August. I wanted the beginning of June to be our wedding so then it’s still green and getting warmer.

Where the kicker is, is that my FH’s father is willing to pay for our honeymoon but not if it’s in June. He thinks cause of the month it would be so hot it wouldn’t be worth it. (We wanted to go to a nice resort in Mexico)

Considering a different place to go for our honeymoon that wouldn’t be so scorching hot but we would really like to stick to the sunny/resort type.

Any advice would mean the world to me!

I did think of a September wedding but my future step child (so excited to be a mom to him!) will be starting school (grade 1) so going off for a 1-2 weeks wouldn’t be ideal when schools starting!

I have heard that Cancun has amazing resorts to enjoy. You may want to get some ideas there and if you wish to explore some areas of South America, my cousin lives there and says its about an hour or two towards Belize.

Thanks ladies for all the advice! You truly all are so amazing! My FH had really wanted to go on our honeymoon right after the wedding but I love the idea of doing a ‘mini-moon’! That might be able to tide him off until it would be better weather.

    Congratulations!

I guess just first off, I have to say that its disappointing when someone offers to pay for something but with restrictions. IMO generosity should not be with strings - but that is still really nice that your FH father is offering that! He is right though, in that June will be super hot in Mexico.

As suggested, I think delaying your honeymoon would be just fine, it is super common! Or again, as suggested, moving the wedding to September. Likely it would give you really nice weather but not the heat. We had a decent September this year! I think October might be risky, and I say this, fully planning an outdoor October ceremony for next year, BUT we have a solid indoor backup plan if the weather turns.

I agree with Tori, option 1 being the most realistic - Have the June wedding but delay your honeymoon to Mexico until later. You could still do a mini-moon in Banff/Jasper (example) and do Mexico in the fall/winter.

Option 2 is good if you weren't dead-set on going somewhere warm. See if FH's would pay if you went to the west coast (for example).

Option 3: not sure what the temperatures are like in September in Calgary, but could still be nice and not too hot. Good option if not dead-set on June.

I'd personally look at Options 1 and 3 a little more and see if one works better for you!

Well congrats on the engagement and welcome to the wedding wire community!!!!

The way I see it, you have 3 options.

Option 1: June wedding, delay the honeymoon until later (lots of people do this - even me and my FH!)

Option 2: June wedding, different place (I'm not a travel bug so I don't have many ideas as to where to go)

Option 3: September/October wedding, still going to be around 20°C for Sept. and around 10°C in October (we are getting married October 5th outside and the weather prediction as of right now is for 10°C)
