Help! my shoes don't fit!

Sonja, on August 17, 2017 at 21:02 Posted in Before the wedding 0 32

I am beside myself. I've been struggling all summer with weight issues and swollen feet. Today I tried on my wedding shoes which I bought as 7.5 E width!! I could barely get my left foot in. Now what am I going to do? Any medical professionals on this site?

Such a nice story, Carol. Isn't it wonderful that sometimes good things do happen to good people. My kids feel that he is the right one for me, too. I'm very happy for your good fortune.

My FH also has never been married before, and that hadnt been his plan either, a series of bad choices and a cheater for him. My marriage was wrong right from the beginning but I'm thankful for it because I have a wonderful son, who calls my guy dad and he is standing up for us. My FH has been there for many of his first, shaving, his first job, driving OMG, LOL while my ex has never been part of his life, we as a family just fit each other perfectly now

I knew I was the old crow on this site. Oh well, this ol'girl has another shot at love and I'm going to grab it with both hands. My fiance is 59 and never been married or had kids. That's not how he planned it but that's how his life went. I told him that I made up for him; I had 4.

Sonja that's amazing! Keep it up. It's the water retention btw that is also adding to the swelling. You can only lose so much water before it the other stuff coming off. Yeah!!! I call that a win for You!

In just a few days of low carb, I've lost 3 pounds (all water weight). Hoping I can keep it up and get this swelling under control.

Cool, I hope it works for You. I know people it just for the weight loss, but I also know who have had help with their diabetes and getting it under control. So worth giving it a try though.

Hi Bethany, My naturopath advised me to stay away from gluten and I've been pretty good with that. Oats are not included because they don't have gluten. I've started back on the low carb diet and have lost 3 lbs since I began this discussion. It's all water. I've been retaining water all summer and that's why my feet are swollen. New shoes? Not in the budget plus I bought these because they came in super wide and only have a 1.5 inch block heel. Can't wear heels anymore.(sniff, sniff)

Do you want to lose weight? Why not just buy new shoes Hahah? I'm vegan for the health benefits. But I do know that giving up simple carbs makes u lose weight like crazy. Stay away from gluten, as hard as it is! No bread or pasta or oats.

Thanks, Shelby. Some really good advice. I'll try some weights. I have some in the basement. Actually, moving furniture and boxes is also weight training, which is what I'm into at the moment. Gradually moving into my FH house.

Sonja, be careful with fasting or "starving" yourself. This isn't the best way to lose weight. Your body needs food ie fuel to work properly. If you are trying to lose weight, try upping or adding weightlifting to your work out routine. Even minimal weight can increase muscle significantly! A lot of people believe that cardio is the best way to lose fat however this isn't the case. Muscle requires far more calories to be sustained. When you have a high cardio workout routine this can actually diminish muscles. Along with weightlifting, add in a high protein, high vegetable diet with minimal sugar. Your carbs shouldn't be eaten in the morning or at lunch. Also make sure you are drinking plenty of water. All the best!

Hi Joey, To make time to see the doc is another issue with my wedding in 36 days. I'm still booking a DJ and Photographer!! I've put the shoes on to wear them around the house and they appear to be loosening. I'll do that every day until the wedding to make sure. Don't know if I should put heat on them. The glue might come apart. Thanks for you input.

What are the shoes made of? If they are at all flexible I would try to wear them around the house with socks on to stretch them out. I've also heard with some shoes you can pop them on and then heat them with a hair dryer to help soften and expand them.

If you're concerned about swelling or water retention I'd see if you can get in to talk to your primary care doc, they may have some ideas for you.

What I was told by my seamstress to stretch shoes is to put a baggie filled with water in you shoes and put them in the freezer overnight, in the morning take them out and put them on and wear them while they warm up, they will stretch and mold to your feet. I haven't tried it myself but that's how skaters break in their skates so it might be worth a try. I hope it works out!

    Hi Carol,

So I checked out the keto diet and realized that I've known about this for a long time. My friend has got control of her diabetes by being on this diet. High fat, low carb, and leafy greens. I'm going to make some subtle changes this week by purchasing walnuts, macadamia nuts, almonds, half and half cream (helps when you can't use sugar), and stock up on the veg and meat. Maybe I can get a handle on this.

Hi Lesley, I've been watching the sodium. I don't eat celery any more because of the sodium, no canned foods, no lunch meats, no processed meats, very little eating out, and I don't cook with salt either. I think a blood test could determine the sodium levels in my body. Going to the clinic tomorrow.

Thanks for the response Kris. I'm going to try to break them in over the next 5 weeks and I'll invest in some flats in case I still have a problem.

Yes you should check it out, many people swear by the lifestyle. Kris left some very good advice also. And yes stress could be adding to it also.

I would check your sodium intake. You might just be retaining water. I'd drink more water and watch your sodium. I'm not medical anything either but I watch my sodium for those reasons .

My wedding shoes are not traditional I went with comfort vs. style as I have bad feet -flat and very wide and issues. I always were running shoes with ortho inserts to/from work.

As I will be in my shoes for 12+ hours I decided to go practical. I also cannot wear stilettos needed a wedge so I don't have back issues.

Mine are Vionic "Laurie wedge shoes" as they are ortho heel and come in extra wide. I got the white snake colour.

They have them on Amazon, Nordstrom , the Bay.

I would not stress about weight issues. I eat very clean, go to the gym 6 days a week I have a personal trainer I see 3 days a week and I have not lost a pound since April. I cut out alcohol completely for past 6 weeks and don't eat bread, rice, pasta etc. at all this year and no changes. Feet are typically more swollen during the day or heat, and other factors.

Make sure you invest in liquid bandaid. It looks like a mini deodorant stick. Rexall no longer carries the product but Shoppers and other drug stores do near the bandaids. Rub it on your feet it prevents blisters, rubbing etc.

My husband is a medical professional but I do not think it matters. If they do not fit now don't squeeze into them you will not be able to walk and will not be comfortable. I would invest in another pair that fits or that you feel comfortable. You can also go to a shoemaker and they can have them professionally stretched for you if you love them and cannot wear anything else but those shoes. You can also roll up two socks in a a ball and stretch em yourself.

I am bringing 3 on my wedding day even though the ones I bought or orthopaedic shoes just to be safe.

Don't stress or be beside yourself it not your fault. Also when you are stressed, nervous worried etc. which brides most likely will be on the wedding day your feet will be more swollen and sweaty.

    Good luck

I haven't heard of Keto. I'll check that out. Sugar is a problem as I still put it in my coffee. I've even tried intermittent fasting where you fast for at least 16 hours every day, thereby shortening the window of time available for eating. I really have to smarten up now and do the right things.

Sonya, you still maybe taking in to many "bad carbs" i eat my burger wrapped in lettuce, no pasta at all, it takes about 2 weeks of no sugar at all, no bread, no pasta, basically no carbs from any flour product and no sugar, to show a difference in swelling. You should look up low carb or Keto. Low carb is usually below 50 carbs a day, Keto is less then 20 "net" carbs a day. Keto has really helped me especially with swelling and weightloss. Each person is different though.

Oh Carol, I've been off bread since January (except for 2 weeks when I caved). I'm on low carb, glutton free diet most of the time. This summer I had a real problem with ice cream but I'm back on the wagon again. I only eat pasta 2 times a month and it's usually glutton free. I even said "No thank you" to pizza this week when I was famished. Once a week I go out for a burger but I've been substituting a salad for the fries lately.

Oh no! When is your wedding? Try to stay off sugar, bread and Pasta they add to swelling. The heat and humidity has been bad this year and are causes for swelling too. Go see your doc and ask what can help.
