So we went to Davis’s Bridal and the experience was horrible, but we at least found dress styles the girls liked. I looked on KF Bridal and found similar styles that were $100 dollars cheaper. Unfortunatly there is a sale and free shipping until July 3rd and I won’t have time to order swatches as it takes 3-5 business days to arrive.

I am looking to choose between deep claret (image 1) and midnight navy (image 2). I am also considering (image 3) but I’m thinking it may have too much purple shade in it. I had originally picked red as my bridesmaid colour because of the symbolism it holds in my indigenous culture. I was then thinking it may be too eye catching.

I would order some swatches first. as I have picked up some from davids bridal and found looking at them online was different than how they looked in person.
another site to try is azazie. they have some of the best reviews for online dress shopping. they help your girls measure. and for a small charge they can even send sample dresses for the girls to try on.

I love the red! My girls wore red for my wedding last autumn and it was eye catching but not distracting.

I totally agree, now just to determine what colour the men will wear. I swear time is passing by too fast. Just 6 months ago we were booking our dj and now the wedding is like 6 months away as my one bridesmaid says you don't count the month of the wedding.

Chippewas of Nawash FN in Ontario. Indigenous on my dad's side of the family and have status. I wanted traditional stuff like having the sacred fire and the blanket ceremony. Couldn't do the full thing so just incorporating elements

I am part of the Athabasca Chipewyan First Nation, from Fort Chipewayn. It's a little confusing since I'm part of that band because my mom married my brothers dad and she got status from marrying him before they changed the laws. My dad tho is Kwakiutl from the west coast of BC and I'm looking to incorporate those elements into our wedding. My FH is also allergic to flowers so looking at doing other options for the decorations for the centre pieces. Which reserve are you from?

Great minds think alike!!! Haha. I love the navy for January. Totally winter elegance without being too cliche.

I am biased, because my color is navy. So I would go with that. Its slimming, its classic, it's a more wearable color for the girls to reuse their dresses...
And blue is definitely seen as blue in the photos. The light will catch the colour.

Oh for sure!! I found that photo but I was kind of thinking that red was a it bright. A deeper red would be just fine!

The lighter of the two blues that I like I think it has too much purple in it. I would not be going lighter than that. I am still inquiring to my dad how we can incorporate more of our tradition in my wedding. I know he can’t hold a potlatch for me because I’m a girl, so I’m looking at incorporating things into the decoration or maybe even songs. I was at a potlatch wedding for my brother almost 10 years ago and I loved it. Just looking to find out what we could incorporate still.

The lighter blue great for bridesmaids. Are you having a traditional indigenous ceremony. Sacred fire etc?

I dont think that would happen, blue will show pigments of blue still Smiley smile and your photographer should be bringing his own lighting or at the very least know how to work the lighting to benefit him 😊

Yes Smiley smile do you think a darker red would still go with the navy?

Yeah that’s what I was thinking, most of my bridesmaids say they prefer the lighter blue, but I don’t think it will work. One of my bridesmaids was asking if I thought the navy would be too dark and would show up looking like black in the photos. I could see this happening if there wasn’t the proper lighting.

I love the navy, and I agree with leah. I think you should incorporate red in to the bouquets or something, and they will look amazing with the blue dresses!

I think the first one definitely looks like it has some pink, and I agree with you about the last one.

Navy is also something they may be able to wear againSmiley smile

This is one of the pictures on KF Bridal of the real wedding for he deep claret colour. I also forgot to mention in the main post that my dress is ivory, not sure if that makes a difference.

    The navy blue is beautiful.
The first dress may be a bit more pink than red.
Maybe you can incorporate red in their and/or your bouquets?
