Help: Host Bar Timing?

Sunshine Shae, on March 10, 2018 at 17:21 Posted in Wedding reception 0 7

Hi All,

Our wedding package stated house wine served with dinner & 7hr Host Bar (see italicize below). When we signed our contract over a yr ago it was our understanding from our original Event Coordinator house wine served during dinner & 7 hrs host bar was separate.

Choose one dessert:

Dulce de Leche Cheesecake

Triple Chocolate Truffle Sphere with Crème Anglaise

Warm Bumbleberry Tart

Coffee and Tea

House Wine served with dinner

Seven Hour Host Bar

I recently got in touch & was advise there is a new Event Coordinator. During our phone conversation yesterday when I was asking about timeline & she was going over the host bar breakdown there was a disconnect with the 7hrs host bar breakdown she said she'd send me an example (see below)..

My question is I did not think the time of dinner serving wine takes away from the host bar time, is that normal?

And for those who don't drink wine should they be able to get other alcoholic drinks during that time as a part of the host bar hrs? (as it states bar is closed during dinner time)

Sample of timeline for the bar package to work!

5pm to 5:30 ceremony on the terrace or arrival to the club after off-site ceremony

5:30pm- 6:30pm cocktail Hour -Host Bar (1 hr.)

6:30pm- 7pm Seat Guests/ Introductions of Bride, Groom & wedding party

7:00pm- 9:00pm Servers offer wine with dinner (2 hrs.) dinner is served at 7pm

9:00pm- 1:00am Host Bar – Wedding Package (4 hrs.)

Bar to be closed during dinner from 6:30pm to 9pm or open by consumption (price list attached)

Late night food @ 10:30pm

Thank you

I would double check with the venue that this is what is happening. You could also ask that they keep the bar opened during dinner and skip wine service (or have wine at the bar).

Thanks Shelly! I will send her an email reply as when she had explain the breakdown over the phone I had mention that there was a disconnect as that's not how it was explained originally. I just wanted to check if base on the breakdown she had sent if 2hrs where the bar is closed and only wine is served should take away from the "host bar" time. Our cocktail hour starts at 4:30pm so just concern that host bar would end at midnight instead of 1am...

Thanks Stephanie! Was just concern as we're starting our cocktail hr at 4:30pm so following that breakdown she sent would end our host bar at midnight. Just concern as that breakdown to me is 5hrs host bar not 7.

    Thanks Jessica!

The above I posted is the sample she had sent me. I did tell her our cocktail hr will start at 4:30pm so following the same format as she outlined that would end our host bar at midnight. I'm concern that we're only getting 5hrs instead of 7 hrs host bar as it says the bar is closed during dinner. Also my thinking is that "2hrs where house wine is being served during dinner & the bar being closed during that time" should not take away from the "host bar" time.

The way it sounds to me is that the 2 hours during during the host bar will be open while wine is being served at the table. If not, then technically you’re only receiving 5 hours host bar.

In your case host bar and wine served at the table shouldn’t be separate anyway as legally they can’t serve past 1am so if the bar were closed during dinner you’re left with an extra 2 hours that you can’t really use as your timeline would suggest.

I would just confirm with them that the bar will be open during those two hours of dinner while wine is also being served.

It sounds like they close the bar to serve wine (same bartenders) so that is the last two hours for the bar services. I think if you let people know their is only wine during dinner, they will be sure to grab a drink at the end of the cocktail hour. And then they can grab some more to drink after dinner.

If the host bar is closed during dinner, than I believe this should not be included in the "host bar" hours, however, it doesn't seem like those two hours would go anywhere else (you probably can't have alcohol served passed 1am), so does it make a difference?

We have a host bar (based on consumption, not hours) and have wine with dinner as well. We chose to close the bar during dinner though, as people will probably grab a drink before dinner to sit down with, and they can either choose wine or water, until after.

What are you concerned with? Is it that you would prefer the bar to be open during dinner? Or that you're paying for 7 hours, when it sounds like your only getting about 5?
