Has anyone else had a Mother of the Groom dress?

Racheal, on September 30, 2019 at 17:48 Posted in Wedding fashion 0 17

Mother-of-the-Bride dresses have been a thing for almost every wedding I have attended and it is something I am excited to search for and treat my own Mom with for our wedding. However, I feel like my FMIL should feel equally as important and special -- after all, she raised the amazing man whom I am so lucky to love.

Is it odd if I make it a 'thing' to get her a Mother-of-the-Bride dress that compliments the wedding party and my Mom's dress while we search for hers? His family is overall quite traditional, but his parents and most of his aunts and uncles are unmarried. I am hoping this would be a good opportunity to bond and help her feel as involved and important as she should on our big day. I also do not want her to feel awkward at all and this hasn't been a tradition or custom any of my friends or family have heard of.

Has anyone else done this and have a positive experience with the search, purchase, etc.?

Thank you guys in advance!

Rae

We are also getting both of our mothers dressed and accessories to compliment each other. Our parents and grandparents are really important to us

I feel like mother of the groom dresses are getting big now and it's actually kind of nice that you want to go shopping with your FMIL for her dress. My now MIL spend countless hours stressing over her dress and I cannot tell you how many conversations we had regarding it. If she lived closer I am sure I would have gone shopping with her.

I was on the fence about the same thing, so I talked with my own mother about it. We both agreed to invite my future mother in-law along to shop for her dress as well.

My future daughter inlaw has asked/suggested the three of us ... her, her mother and myself go look for dresses together for us moms. She has included me in everything and I will be honest it is a wonderful feeling ❤️ I appreciate her.

My FMIL got a Mother of the Groom dress - very normal where I am for both Mom's to wear a fancier dress to stand out! She just didn't take me with her shopping though... she bought it and then showed it to me and said "look what I'm going to wear".... so... that part was weird...

I've been out looking at dresses with my FMIL too - I don't understand why only the bride's mom should be honoured at a wedding. Whatever we go with will definitely go with our colour scheme to make things cohesive.

Yes! This is such a great idea. I love my fmil & would love for her to feel special on our day as much as my own mother, I’m totally stealing this idea ☺️

I'll be taking my FMIL out to get her a mother of the groom dress. My FH is an only child and I want her to feel and look her best that day.

My mother in law has a mother of the groom dress but I wasn’t involved in that. Her daughter went with her which is a good experience for them!

It’s definitely a sweet thing to do and I think your FMIL would appreciate it!

I've actually never heard of a Mother of The Bride dress being done quite that way. I think it is lovely that you want to celebrate your FMIL and your mother and I think it could be a wonderful new tradition.
