Halloween Wedding

Amanda, on August 29, 2020 at 17:35 Posted in Plan a wedding 0 10
I've recently decided I want to be the complete opposite of most people I don't want to be proposed to I'd like to just get married . My significant other really likes this idea so I'm starting the planning process. I'd like to keep cost low and do alot of DIY. My dream has always been a Halloween wedding as I'm a die hard Halloween addict, and I'm hoping for some ideas. I'd like to do a simple reception and then have like a Halloween party afterwards now I'm not sure if a pot luck is coming off cheap or get it catered. If anyone has done this before I'd love some advice on decorations and so on . Can't wait to get some ideas

I wouldn't do the surprise thing, unless you don't mind guests flaking. It's not even about not wanting to celebrate Halloween but rather, they likely have a few options and people can be indecisive or plan to jump around for Halloween parties. Whereas a wedding will ensure a commitment from guests.

Thanks so much Genevieve , oh my gosh a surprise party that sounds even more exciting. Now the only thing I wonder is if people would easily decline not knowing it's a wedding but a Halloween party . I mean who doesn't love Halloween let alone a party !

Oh man, I’ve always wanted a Halloween wedding. I had a friend who did a surprise Halloween wedding: they told their guests it was a party and then when they showed up, it was a party and a wedding! Everyone was super excited.
I agree with the others, get it catered to save yourself the trouble and you could have awesome halloween appetizers like witch’s fingers, skeleton cookies (we make them out of chocolate sugar cookies like gingerbread men), ghostly cream puffs, ‘devil’led eggs, a skull wedding cake. The list is endless! And with Halloween decorations being either in the glam, scary, or kitschy category, you can pick one and really do it up nice. Good luck! I’m so excited for you!

Thank you Amelia for the great ideas I'm definitely going for more goth and classy than anything hokey pokey. I love the Halloween treat idea like even having a trick or treat table so people can take home various treats before they leave!!

I love the formal idea , I would have to put that on the invite somehow in a playful way I would want it to be a classy Halloween, did I mention my dress is a replica of Morticias dress so definitely would love at theme. Also love the idea for the cocktail party as your right most people will be up and about mingling thank you for your insight !!

I always advise against potluck for weddings. There are too many variables working against you.

With a Halloween theme, you can do cocktail style appetizers over a traditional seated dinner. I feel like the Halloween vibe lends more to people being up and about instead of staying seated at a table. Mix in some food stations like poutine and a candy bar for variety (covid permitting).

Make a monster style signature drink for the bar.

Dress code could be "costumes in formal wear." That could be as basic as zombies in suits and dresses or coming as characters in formal wear such as those from Phantom of the Opera, the Addams Family, Dracula or any classical vampire, and any Disney character etc.

I would get it catered. The additional cost of having someone else make the food will save you the headache of figuring out who is bringing what and wondering if there will be enough variety and enough to feed everyone. Plus if you're renting a venue some won't allow potlucks for food safety reasons. I would look into getting some throwback Halloween treats, like those finger cookies with the almonds for nails that we could eat at school back when nuts were allowed, I remember them at every childhood Halloween event.

I think a Halloween wedding could be very cool. Florals in goth-y shades of deep blood red and black roses would be fun. You could do tables with different Halloween characters (Jack Skellington, the Sanderson sisters, etc).

Great concept to have and skip the proposal. The cost of a ring can equal the price of your wedding band. My husband back before the wedding wouldn't hace had the money to get an engagement ring.

Decor wise, pumpkins in metallic colours and glitter skulls would make nice centerpeices to make conversation talk at the tables. Pinterest has ideas too that may have you thinking colour palettes and designs.
