Hair and Makeup Trial

Alycia, on January 29, 2020 at 22:21 Posted in Beauty 2 8

I’m going to test my hair and makeup this weekend, does anyone have any tips for me or things they wish they would’ve thought to ask their stylists at or before the trial?

    Things to ask hairdresser:

    - How close to the day of should I wash my hair? Some stylists don't want you to wash day-of since day-old hair can be better to work with.

    - How should I style my hair for you to work with it better? I have naturally thick, curly hair and my stylist said it's easier (and less time) if my hair was straight and smooth so I styled it the day before when I washed it

    - Bring any hair pieces/veils/etc. when you go to trials so your stylist can practice working with them!! Don't be me, who forgot

Things to ask Makeup artists (MUA):

    - Will I need to supply my own foundation? I know some places prefer their clients to bring their own foundation, so make sure!

    - Can I buy mascara/lipstick from you or somewhere else for touch-ups?

For both trials, definitely keep the look throughout the day and see how day-proof it is. Also don't be afraid to speak up if you don't like something about your hair and/or make up.

When you see how long the look lasts don't forget to try and sweat a little - you will be dancing at your wedding I assume?

Also, if it wasn't obvious - if you have any hair pieces make sure you bring them so that the stylist knows where it will need to go (no need to put a full veil, the headband, etc. in for the trial, but they will need to have a place for it on your head).

Another thing with the hair - I made sure that my hairstyle was easy to convert! Like, I know it was pretty, but I also know myself and wanted to be able to take it down/out and put it in a simple pony tail but still have it look nice so that it was out of my face/ off my shoulder for the party time!

That’s a good thing to ask for sure! Doesn’t seem gross for me, I don’t wash my hair every time I shower, it removes a lot of the healthy oils that protect your hair. Ever since I went blond I feel like I have to wash them less often or else they get really dry. BUT yes I will definitely make sure to ask what the ideal window of time to wash my hair before the wedding! Thanks, I wouldn’t have thought to ask that Smiley tongue

This might sound gross, but ask them how far in advance to wash your hair. Squeeky clean hair can be harder to work with so they may want you to not shower the morning of.

Awesome information! Thank you, I'll take notes down so I remember to ask. My mom is taking my sisters and I out to a high-tea after, it's a random coincidence that their is a fundraiser for a breast cancer at my godmothers building. I said to myself I will be all dressed up and WILL have somewhere to go and you just made me realize it's also perfect for testing the durability of my makeup!

I would ask if they’re going to give you samples of anything to take with you for the day so you can do touch ups later. Things like foundation, mascara, etc.

Also if you’re using bobby pins - will they give you some extra in case any fall out?
I’d also probably ask how they plan on making your look last all day - will they be using a setting spray? And then I’d go home and see how long the make up actually lasts for and if you find it’s starting to come off very quickly then definitelylet them know!
