Grooms! Are we getting shafted?

Jason, on April 10, 2018 at 13:20 Posted in Before the wedding 0 19

Maybe I'm just too into the planning stage right now (fiance did give me a shirt with Bridezilla on it) but were's the magazines just for Grooms? Where's our "Todays Bride"? Where's our dedicated wedding clothing stores? Girls get all this great stuff to look at/search for. Am I'm alone on this? Who's with me! ...... ............ Although it does seem much less stressful for us so maybe I'm overreacting Smiley sexy Smiley sexy

Can I just say that it annoys me to NO END that when both of us are chatting with vendors, the vendors only talk to ME. They direct all of their questions to me. They never even look at him. And, when vendors send the contracts, it just says my name and not his. For example, our caterer put "Kelly wedding" as the event name....like...just me? just my wedding??

Its so dumb. As a bride with a fiancee who IS part of the planning, I get where you're coming from. We're a team. Its OUR day.

My fiancé’s mother keeps telling him that it’s my wedding and that he doesn’t get any say. She’s partly kidding (I think haha) but she’s constantly telling me that it’s my day and to shut him down if he starts having any opinions. He doesn’t want to be overly involved in the planning but it does frustrate him when people refer to it as my day and likes to remind people that he’s getting married as well!

I have heard of couples who have given each other engagement rings, or engagement gifts. If you want a men's engagement ring, bring it up with your fiancee! I'm sure there are rings you could get to wear in the meantime.

Glad to see a groom on here! I know in some stores they have magazines for guys. If you go to the suit stores. Have you went to any bridal shows before? I realize it emphasizes brides but I have seen couples and guys seem to enjoy them.

We also do the vast majority of planning and unpaid work for the families. I’d hand it over if i could and you can have the magazines with it, bro.

I subscribed to a Bridal box, and my FH went OFF about "where's my box? I could get cigars, or a flask, or socks!"... You are not alone in thinking that there should be something for men. Maybe you guys can go in on a Groom Box business together...

But really, there are plenty of men who want to be involved in the planning process, give their opinions, etc, but not very many want to go all in, do the research, get the goody bags, magazines, "pointless" shopping trips "just to look"... Haha. But my FH is definitely one of them, and sounds like you are too! Personally, I'm glad he's so involved.

Lol I hear you. My fiancé doesn't give a poop about certain things as well. Especially when it comes to the decor.

Thanks - although there is certain stuff i really have zero opinion on (want a chandelier thing at the venue? sure no problem whatever), I can't imagine not being part of the whole process!

Lol Jason. I think that the bridal community is more geared towards women because it's not that common for grooms to really be interested in the planning process. I'm glad to see a groom on here and interacting with everybody. I got lucky with my FH and that he is interested in planning and helping out. It makes planning a wedding much less stressful when the groom gives input. Good job Smiley smile

I agree with you, it's pretty women-centric, but the reason for that is pretty simple: Women drive the wedding market. We have specialty magazines and stores because the industry knows we'll buy into them. Men generally don't care and don't need as much. I mean they could basically just wear the suit they wore to work and that'd be fine.

The last couple of magazines I've bought had a detachable mini-mag for Grooms, which were beyond cheesy and unhelpful...my FH threw it out right away.
