He'll more likely re-wear a suit if it's darker like a dark charcoal. It can be used for other weddings, other formal events held during the day or evening, business functions, and funerals. Regardless of how little someone claims to wear a suit, every man just needs one as something in their life will necessitate wearing a suit. But there are less opportunities to re-wear a tuxedo. If he's willing to get a more traditional suit, he can buy a decent one made of wool off the rack starting at $300-$400 at places like Moores, The Bay etc.

But if the wedding is literally the only time he'll ever wear a suit, or if he already has a black one in the closet for other uses, he might as well get this cheap tux that looks to his liking.

For purchasing, you can always go the made to measure/custom route at places like Suit Supply, Spier and Mackay, Indochino etc. Since it's a made to measure customized tuxedo, these options will run you $700+.

If he's willing to change some details (dark grey instead of light grey, peak instead of shawl lapel, grey instead of black lapel, dinner jacket instead of full tuxedo suit, etc) there are rental options for <$200. You can also purchase a light grey tuxedo or suit off the rack at many retailers in the $300-$600 range.

If you're super tight on budget and don't mind the drop in quality, you can get something very similar to your picture at Jason Jackson. I personally don't recommend it since it's a polyester/viscose suit (you get what you pay for) but for a one day use, as long as he can tailor it to fit properly, it's not the end of the world.

Since it's a satin shawl lapel, that is a tuxedo. This specific image leads to a random online retailer on Aliexpress. I wouldn't buy a suit off that but I'm sure you can find something similar at a local retailer. Can't say I recall seeing grey tuxedo options with a black lapel though.

If you goto moores you can order custom suit, that’s what my fiancé did and it ended up being cheaper than renting
