Glasses vs Contacts

Hank, on May 6, 2020 at 08:37 Posted in Wedding fashion 0 11
For those who wear glasses on an everyday basis, do you plan to lose them on your wedding day for contact lenses? Or are you keeping the glasses?

My arguments for glasses are that a lot of people have never seen me without glasses and usually people look different when you're used to seeing them with glasses. Also, it'll be a looooooong day and keeping a pair of contact lenses on for over 12 hours plus alcohol is not fun.
A argument for contacts is that glasses absolutely suck for photos because glares from sunlight or the camera flash can ruin great photos. Also, most people don't seem to wear glasses with black tie formal wear.
Glasses also mask any funny craziness my eyes may have the day of like bags or dark circles. I unfortunately don't have the luxury of having make up to fix that 🤣. But I don't have to worry about contacts fogging up during temperature changes in a winter wedding lol.
Decisions, decisions...

Can you just get some eye drops? keep ur eyes lubricated? i would wear contacts. you dont want glasses to take away from your face/makeup. before i had laser eye surgery i would wear my contacts for 14 hours a day.

Oooh, I forgot you can get free trial pairs. It's been over 12 years since I've worn contacts. Thanks!

Oh man, thanks for reminding me about the elements! It's one thing to just wipe fog, but having even a hint of rain or snow will definitely muck things up.

This is an excellent question. I’ll def wear contacts as I already wear them 70-80% of the time in my work and social life. So I won’t feel alien or anything. That said I always switch to glasses (immediately) when I get home and up until now I had not considered how brutal it might be to wear contacts for 16 consecutive hours. The dryness. Ugh. The worst. Will definitely have to be equipped with eye drops!!

I was going to do contacts on my wedding day. I then freaked out because I am very squirmy about touching my eyes/having them touched. I just went without my glasses and wore no contacts. I need glasses for distance so I wasn’t too affected by not wearing them. It might have helped because when I first started to walk down the aisle my husband was just a blurry figure til I got closer, which slightly saved my emotions lol.

I wore my glasses for our engagement shoot and our photographer really didn’t have trouble with glare or reflections in our photos.

I have a blue light filter on my glasses that causes any light reflecting off them to look purple, so I started the process of getting contacts earlier this year before the lockdown happened.

If you get more used to wearing them leading up to your wedding you'll be okay wearing them for longer. My contact specialist also recommended stashing an extra set in case you lose one or need to take them out for a bit.

Honestly the first time I was wearing contacts around all my friends who haven't seen me without glasses no one even seemed to notice a difference so I wouldn't worry about looking too different.

I wear glasses everyday, all day but I will be using contacts for the wedding. I hate the glare off of my glasses in photos and I prefer contacts for when I get dressed up.

I agree that my eyes also get tired and dry all day in contacts. I'd recommend going to your optometrist/optical and talking to them about your concerns. Trial contact lenses are FREE. Get them to help you find a pair that are most comfortable for all day wear and try out a bunch of different kinds until you're happy with them. I'd recommend getting dailies if you don't already wear them.

I'm doing contacts instead of my usual glasses. I got my contacts a year or so ago to start getting used to them for long wear.

Our photographer explained the glare to me and I just did not want to regret the photos later on.

I've worn my contacts enough by now that people are used to seeing me without them.

They're a struggle to get used to in the beginning and I was worried I'd fall asleep with them on but that's never happened. I'm too much of a wimp to get laser eye so contacts are the next best thing for me LOL

I'm doing contacts instead of my usual glasses. I did the same thing for my grad photos and while a few people didn't recognize me, most did.

My main reason is not wanting a specific style of frames to date my photos. I look at my dads glasses in wedding photos and it's not hard to tell it was the 80s!
I also don't want to worry about glare or reflections during photos, or needing to take them off to wipe tears away.

I tested the waters with this during my engagement photos - half were with and half were without. In the end I was going to do the same thing for the wedding photos... but then it was POURING rain outside... so contacts won! lol

But honestly.. Even though I always wear glasses to work 5/7 days a week, I prefer myself without glasses and whenever I get dressed up or have a gala or party to go to I always wear contacts. I figured a wedding is a big party and that it should include contacts as well! Plus, I won't have the same pair of glasses forever - but there's always a chance that I can get laser eye surgery and get my eyes corrected!

I will be in this exact same predicament and I really don't have an answer yet.

I typically wear my glasses all day everyday (in fact I haven't worn contacts in almost a year) but I am thinking that I would like to wear contacts for my wedding.

Your point about the glasses fogging up in the winter is a really good point as well ...

Now i'm thinking that maybe I can do both .. wear contacts during the ceremony and pictures and then take them out and change into glasses before the reception! This could be the perfect balance.
